What's the story with the plates over there? I have MCFCAOK on mine ( yeah I know the "A" is a bit shit. but MCFCOK was taken). Why can't you just get what you want? I don't get these plates that have numbers and stuff in them. You can get whatever you want over hear as long as it's not offensive, and they only cost about $100.00 a pair.

The police angle is misrepresentation.....if I had say been driving in a hit a run vehicle, and still had my C7TY M reg.....a witness would decribe it as 'City M'.....and a good defence lawyer could apparently argue it's not what the reg actually says.....sounds silly, but there you go....

I now have D8 CTY (my initials are DB) so though not as good as the old one, but fully legal.

But why does it have to say C7TY and not CITY? Same with the D8 one. what's wrong with DB?

Do you get to keep that plate forever or just a year.
It's a boom trade over here, status symbol etc.
Seen a merc in Bowden the other week with M155HOE, she had it spaced as mis shoe!
No I thought, it's miss hoe!!
Chemist near me has DRU9Y, bit risky that one!

Cos the real reg is C7 TYM. That's the way our reg's are spaced.....1 or I isn't used (can be mixed up) so we have to go for the nearest to them....same with my current one....the sequence is Letter then a number (or two).....just our system here.....

As for keeping them, then yes, they are 'for life' if you wish, but will cost about £80 each time you move it to your next vehicle, for 'admin' costs.....or can retain it on certificate, but again it costs £50 a year to renew it....

I forgot that they do them differently. I remember when I was a kid that there were "F" reg, "G" reg etc. and that it represented the year that the car was made. Over here, the plates belongs to the owner and can be put on any car they buy (almost any, I had to put them in the wifes name when I bought a truck as I need truck plates). Matter of fact, we just switched them onto a new car last weekend.
