Starcastle were a really good band. Should have enjoyed more success than they did.

Probably not your grand dads prog, but...
Look past the early 90’s MTV shit video and this band was amazing.
Still use this album to judge new audio equipment. Just brilliant work.
As a teen, I went along with mates seeing Prog bands like Genesis, Yes, ELP, Gentle Giant, Barclay James Harvest, Captain Beefheart. Van der Graaf Generator and Camel to name a few, and to be honest a lot of it left me cold. I prefer the more mainstream side of rock I guess.
However I gave Porcupine Tree a listen purely out of interest of their keyboard player being Richard Barbieri , from Japan who I am a huge fan of ... and was surprised to quite liking what I heard.
Think he does a a good version of Genesis lamb lies down as well
Not a prog fan but as a more mainstream rock fan, I'm a big Rush fan, but how do you proggers rate them.

Cant realy think of another band that have lasted so long and gone through so many musical changes, for the three of them to make albums as different as fly by night, 2112, hemispheres, permanent waves, grace under pressure, vapour trails and clockwork angels plus all those in between. To be able to produce all that stuff live and with humour I think sets them apart and crosses the prog / mainstream rock devide., in a way no other rock / prog band does.I would say yes. Especially everything from Permanent Waves through Hold Your Fire.
I’ve seen them a dozen times live. True masters of their craft.
