Progressive Rock

I bought " The Yes Album " from Yanks probably about 1978-1979 as a 13-14 year old
Its still deeply moving to me now as then.
When I now look and hear the utter shit my 14 year old listens to,its a different world for sure.

My wife's best friend's father owned Yanks; not that I knew them at the time or that I ever found anything much worth buying in there. "The Yes Album" is well worth owning: my favourite album by my favourite Prog band but not sure if it is my favourite album by a Prog band.

My prog rock god has to be the mercurial Chris Squire - RIP.
Here are my Top Ten favourite tracks that feature the most astonishing playing.
In no particular order
1. No opportunity necessary.
2. Long Distance Runaround
3. Into the Storm
4. Does it Really Happen
5. Tempus Fugit
6. Parallels
7. On the silent Wings of Freedom
8. The Gates of Delirium
9. Roundabout
10. Heart of the Sunrise.
And an honourable mention to “Hold out your Hand” from his solo album.
The start of Parallels is probably my favourite bass line ever.

We did these lists on the Classic Rock thread but here goes again, my double best of Yes cd:

Side 1
1. Starship Trooper
2. Yours is No Disgrace

Side 2
3. Does it Really Happen?
4. Heart of the Sunrise

Side 3
5. Owner of a Lonely Heart
6. On the Silent Wings of Freedom
7. The Calling

Side 4
8. I've Seen All Good People
9. Parallels
10. Roundabout

Heads up that Terry Brown ( Rush etc) has remixed a lost classic by Discipline called Unfolded Like Staircase. One of the finest Prog Albums of the last 20 odd years...

There's a few fans on here going off the album threads so thought it might be an excuse to create a new thread :)
Start with a classic track from Yes.
This is from the Union tour when ABWH joined up with Cinema ex Yes personal. 2 drummers, 2 keyboards, 2 guitars, 1 singer, 1 bassist.
I could kick myself for being too apathetic to go to the show.
Brilliant version.

Excellent stuff. Last time I saw them was the 35th anniversary tour in 05. Surprisingly good concert with mostly golden era material. Missing Chris.

One of my favourite Prog Albums is the Manchester based Mandalaband.
The 1st album is a Tibetten themed wig out with superb guitars. You would never guess they went on to become Sad Cafe.
The second album, Eye of Wendor features 10cc, Sad Cafe, BJH and the Hallie Orchestra in a Tolkienesque tale. Completely daft but brilliant. Recorded in down time in Stockport. It was released at the hight of Punk and disappeared without a trace.

I think Woolly had a lot to do with this
