Wasn't Prometheus the demi-God who gave us fire, and the Gods were so peeved that they condemned him to eternal torture? If so, it's got to be something to do with our creators being angry that we have advanced, or something.

Thing is, the ship they're in is called Prometheus so it could just be as simple as that.

Prometheus (the ship) being the embodiment of the advanced technology that our creators didn't want us to have?

I reckon this is a pretty good guess, although perhaps, in fact, the technology was exactly what was required for us to 'find' the Alien ship - so maybe the reference is to Prometheus' fate rather than his achievement.

Urgh boring

This is the kind of thing authors slip into when they write a cool little story. They feel the need to expand it to the point that they must answer every big question we (humans) have

I hope the synopsis isn't real
