Prometheus trailer

I'm not arsed about "space jockeys", so if that's the storyline I'll be very dissappointed.

you have said this before but it is in the first alien and a real question mark on what it does, would be great to find that out surely?

Would rather see some Xenomorphs.

The space jockey in the trailer reminds me of the Mondoshawans from The Fifth Element.

they've had 33 years and countless films to tell us and create a backstory, bringing them back after that time and after the franchise has gone a completely different way and it's a mess, if thats it in the picture above then it looks like something out of Dr. Who and how long before we get Aliens vs. Space Jockeys? sounds like Cowboys & Aliens, they can't been any more mesmeric than the Alien which is the integral part of all this, or as cool as the Predator, so what's the point?

You can tell it's Ridley Scott, he better pull it out of the bag.

I answered the Space Jockey's role myself, as everyone can do with their own view, story and opinion, I don't need Ridley Scott to twist a franchise up even further to tell me his version that he left 33 years to become insignificant.

well i wouldn't mind finding out what the space jockey's role was, but i bet they'll just reference it, show a few shots of it and move on, just like the original alien.

well, exactly, it played such an insignificant role in the original and had been left for 33 years, was just a transporter in my mind which crashed, but quite obviously, there's going to be a whole storyline about it in the film, as that ship is destroyed that was found in Alien, which means we're going to have at least one live space jockey I reckon.

I have personally always been intrigued by the Space Jockey. It was an entirely different species and yet little or no reference was made to it in any of the films.

I have wondered whether it/they had genetically created the xenomorophs or possibly they were some form of merchant race transporting these creatures for sale for military purposes.

I wonder whether Ridley Scott had this film in mind when he made the original as there is little that the Space Jockey adds to the narrative of the original movie.

when the franchise went in the AvP direction I took it to be the latter and that they were a subordinate species to the Predator.

Interesting. Hadn't thought of that.

I actually didn't think AvP was quite as bad as some made out but I reckon it did more harm to the reputation of The Alien Franchise than The Predator one for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. The sequel was a truly awful, low budget piece of shit, mind.

In any event I can't see Ridley Scott's creative licence being dictated to in any way by what went on in those two movies.

I think it was because you know what you get with a Predator film, it's gonna be kick ass battle for 2 hours with some cool technical gadgets that all the blokes like, whereas a proper Alien film is meant to be slow, drawn out yet dark, creepy and a bit bloody frightening.

I thought the 2 crossovers were crap, if they'd done it properly and in space and thought of a proper story I think it would have been great, but the Americans never think, which is why you can still see a "camouflaged" predator on screen and you always see the Alien coming, whereas you should never see either until somebody's gored to death.
