I thought it was good, but not great. Definitely worth a watch. I don't get the comment about none of the characters having any redeeming qualities. Granted, only a couple of them do, but that was pretty much the case with all the Alien films.

Fassbender was, as usual, exceptional.

Enlighten me. Other than David, which characters did you genuinely care for, and what was going to happen to them?

The black pilot; the female lead; the two co-pilots who made the bet.
Edit: as much as you can genuinely care what happens to a fictional character in a film.

the alien that they woke up was the guy who was poisoned by the robot guy, the robot guy put him in the alien ship to do what he could for the old guy, and when he tried to get the woman at the end (the woken alien) he was trying to save her, but the robot guy told her he was gonna kill her........hmmmm

Noomi and idris alba(?) characters weren't too bad?

Ponderous, predictable plot.

Saw it at the IMAX today, and it was average I suppose. Enough in it to make it a decent watch though. Some delightfully grim scenes that will make people squirm. The best bit though..... The new IMAX countdown before the film, 3D technology at its best!

Saw it today I was hoping they would end it to tie up perfectly with Alien but its not even set on the same planet. They should of tied it up with Alien what a fail.
