I know times are hard for many (and my thoughts go out to all who are in fear of losing their jobs) but I thought I'd share my good news with you...

As of August 17th I am being promoted to the rank of Chief Technician (roughly equivalent to Sergeant Major in the Army) :-) Main bonus being a bloody nice pension at the end of my career :-)

Congratulations. But isn't sad? I too get quite a good pension but have to wait until retirement until I can afford the good things in life.

I know what you mean but I start getting my pension as soon as I leave (probably at the age of 48).
 
Congratulations on your promotion. What trade are you in?

And if Chief Tech is equivalent to Sergeant Major, what are the equivalents of Flight Sergeant and Warrant Officer?!
