Protests outside a Batley School

There's hundreds of pictures of Muhammad from the Islamic world throughout history. Like most Islamic extremism, this thin-skinned intolerance is actually a pretty new phenomenon. Just look at the Wikipedia article 'Depictions of Muhammad' and there are loads on there by Muslim artists from history.
As I understand it for the Sunni religion it's seen as idolatry and haram. However for the Shia's its quite common to see images of Mohammed.

One of the major issues within the Sunni religion is that Sharia is seen as absolute and the actual words or the prophet rather than something that can be interpreted and nuanced.
