Anyone recommend a company to fix the bloody thing.......knock it on and it just dies with a flashing red light!

Theres a place in Bury town centre (search on ebay there on there), but its only a temp fix it will go again in about 3/4 months. You can always ring Sony, they will bring a new one to your house and swap it over but that will cost you £130....

I was told it isnt really fixable, they can fix it but it just keeps breaking down again after a short period.

Mine was insured from Game and it went back 3 times before they gave me a new one and the repairers told me to leave it on constantly to hasten the chances of it breaking and getting a new one quicker.

Mine was one of the early PS3's 60gb with all the extra stuff (they stopped making this version as it was prone to overheating)

If you have house insurance cough cough pint of water spillage is the way to go.

The "fix" is heating the CPU and GPU with a hotgun. Done it myself 3 times, on the 4 i bought a new ps3. The old one is sitting there waiting for me to take it apart and "fix" it. Takes 30mins to take apart 45-60 to put back together and 15 mins heating and cooling but i am too lazy knowing it will break again in a few uses.

First "repair" lasted a good 3-4 months of gaming, "2nd repair " laster about a few weeks and the last 4-5 days with only movies being played.

Ring up sony and demand a new one!

I was glad mine was insured as Sony didnt want to know when I rang, infact they told me I could have a reconditioned one for a £140 the fuckers.

Bare in mind this was a known fault and about 3 years ago now.

Serves you right for constantly sticking your dick in the usb port.

I remember all the Sony PS2/3 owners taking the piss out of Xbox red light of death sufferers and now it seems it happens to you as well!
So we're both in the same boat after all, the only difference being that Microsoft swapped mine, reconditioned for old whereas Sony tell you to go f**k yourself.

Ahhhh...smug mode.
