PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Nobody else in the world I'd rather have at the helm. Pep has made mistakes, and he will make mistakes. He's a stubborn fucker, he is. But nobody else. Maybe — just maybe, as an outside bet — Klopp. But in the midst of this débâcle, the one thing that reassures me is that Pep is here for two more years for the rebuild.

Who on earth do people want? Chris Potter?? Eddie Howe??
If we ever hired that C**t Klopp i would stop going.

His distribution kept putting us under more pressure than necessary
His long kicks too are wasted by Erling as he is facing the wrong way, misses the header to get the ball and then codes possession. So frustrating.

I need to try and chill my beans a bit now after last night, got a lot going on, and haven't got much bandwidth left ATM to worry about next week. The season for an number of reasons is absolutely gash compared to recent years. I'm not entitled ( see my user name, so have been through it) but being outplayed and outmuscled and outfought 97 times out of hundred games is wearing me down. Concluded if they aren't trying why should I waste my precious few energy resources. Team got me through lots of things, including v recent hub cancer, but they aren't helping ATM. Apologies for the rant!!

Am I right in thinking Brugge are likely to go through regardless of the result next week? It would need Us to win, Benfica, Sporting, Stuttgart and PSG all to avoid defeat. This is assuming no massive goal difference swing with Zagreb.

I think a geezer who is sitting two rows below me had a point when he remarked some time ago, that our downward spiral started with that CL final against Inter.
I truly expected us to go large the window after the treble & start our succession planning in earnest. IIRC, the only major signings we made were Gvardiol, the panic buy Nunes & Kovacic who essentially replaced Gundog.

It seems like the club recognised the urgent need for a rebuild last summer, but Pep declined. I'm putting two & two together here, but reports suggest he was seriously considering making this his last season with us, before moving to the UAE to reunite with his wife.

Could it be that Pep wanted to leave the rebuild to a new manager, hence him turning down the opportunity & opting for one last lambada with his all conquering, but ageing squad?

The criticism of Nunes in the match thread and here is insane. He was arguably our best player. He's not a right-back. Why Pep isn't playing him in midfield where we have ZERO legs is baffling.
He's a pro footballer and as such should have basic skills like fucking tackling.

This all day long an awful lot of fair weather fans on here, to hear them call everyone of these players and our manager it's a wonder we ever won anything with how shit these players are according to some on Bluemoon.
People say what they see. Has always been the case and is why we have a fan forum. I was gutted by that performance and said so. I can assure you I’m far from fair weather.

A win for us and a draw between PSG and Stuttgart would see them, ourselves and Brugge level on points
Other results could leave a good few teams on the same points.
Time to get the abacus out
Doubtful Zagreb will overturn the GD

I assume we can't drop into the Europa this year? That would have been fun, haven't been in that for ages

We got pressed off the park by a better side, shit happens. We already know we aren't good enough to even be in this tournament at the moment, only a horrible format allows us to still be alive here.

All the focus should be on getting into top 4/5 and go again next year, with a midfield and squad good enough to compete in it
Exactly this. If we get through we get twated by the first competent team we face. We don’t need further blows to confidence when the most important thing is qualifying next year by which time serious irebuilding will have begun.

He cost us all the momentum last night with that massive fuck up for their first goal. You just can’t dive in like that and leave the whole team exposed. He played ok other than that but sadly that one fuck up changed the whole game. Bit like the united game, one massive fuck and the games flipped on its head.

Look, a big chunk of our side is at the end of the cycle. The Prem table does not lie after 22 games - we're 5th after a poor half campaign. We're 25th in the CL and PSG's young, dynamic megabucks side are 22nd. PSG have no excuse whatsoever, for their miserable CL campaign so far apart from last night. Fair play - PSG were stellar last night, but last night wasn't their normal performance in the CL - albeit they had a bit of luck alongside their massive performance. Dembele - coming up to 28 - all the ability in the world but is inconsistent. Saw him score a worldy for Barca 6 or 7 years ago and thought he was destined to stay there. The reason he's not there and wasn't signed by any of the usual contenders is that one game he's brilliant, the next he can't be bothered.

I'll take having to beat Brugge to progress. Our rebuild has started. Pressure is a strange thing. If we progress, moderately good sides in the CL will become favourites to beat us. How will those sides deal with the pressure of being expected to beat us. WE ARE CITY, AND NONE OF THE USUAL SUSPECTS LAUGHING AT US NOW WILL RELISH PLAYING US IN KNOCKOUT FOOTBALL. Even with some of our players being on the last lap, we can play better and I'm confident we will. A different perspective for this season, and I for one am looking forward to seeing our new signings being phased into the side. From what I can see, we've done some very good business.

A win against Chelsea & a comfortable victory next Wednesday will put a positive perspective on our season. Last night was a bad result but our season starts now. New signings, injuries nearly behind us (Rodri apart), Bobb back next month, new defenders, a new striker...I think in May the city faithful will be smiling.

Some fair points. However, play like we did last night and an awful lot of teams will dispatch us with ease.

I cut him some slack for his last two games since the derby but hey ho. Zab would have put that PSG lad in row Z along with the ball.
Nunes seems a big lad 6' plus but is a right soft arse.

That and our nominated captain has had his head up his arse for the last 12 months with his of field problems , why Pep hasnt seen it and said sorry Rodri and Dias are our captains for the foreseeable ? fuck this leaving it to the players , its glaringly obvious our lack of leadership on the pitch , remember when our defence used to be high fiving each other after a crucial block or tackle ? all thats gone . we concede now and everyones head goes

Why are people moaning about the need for new players, when that is clearly happening. Last night we lost to a team who played really well.

leadership is an issue. Gundo and KDB cannot be leaders because they play horrible and their legs are gone. Walker wasnt a leader with his form lately and off field antics.
Rodri out.

Dias could be next in line but struggles to keep fit. likes of Akanji, Bernardo, Kovacic, Ederson just dont have enough authority and leadership skills.
