PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Its not guaranteed though. Someone above us with less than 11 points need to not win for us to qualify.

We might still fail to qualify with a win.
I don't think so. If we beat Brugge we would be level on points but with a superior goal difference to Brugge. PSG play Stuttgart - we win and overtake both in the event they draw but overtake the loser in the event there is a winner in that game.

If we weren't looking for a midfielder, after last night we will be.

Luiz would be a solid stop gap.

Rodri does fix a hell of a lot of our current issues of course.
Not sure what difference last night makes.....it's been on a giant glowing neon sign with Bells on, since Rodri missed a few games last season!!
Not sure what makes Luiz a 'solid stop gap'....he's like a 'Kovacic Light'.

The midfield legs have gone and Pep knows it. We can still be relatively competitive however, if the mistakes are cut out.
That's why I am so fustrated with Nunes.I do not accept this stuff about him not being familiar with the position. The modern player needs to be flexible and be able to adapt. He is on last chance saloon and lucky to get the minutes he has received this season. He has never got a Prem goal for City, not shown enough in 8 or 10 positions. Pep does not trust him as a 6 also. He is also never going to be a long term solution as a wide left or right. Therefore he may as well embrace the right back position and show some positional adaptability when required. But that position needs defensive discipline and concentration. I really think he was trying to make a forward run similar to the second goal, when trying to intercept. He wanted to show off and it was not the time to do it and it cost us.
He was poor enough in all the other positions he played but as a defender he is a disaster, cost us the utd game and last night's. trouble is we are desperately short in that position . Walker poor and didn't want to play,Rico hopeless.

I think some players are not at their best not because they are oldish or finished or not good enough in the first place, but because they have been overplayed this season.

Prime examples are Akanji, Gvardiol and Bernardo, but we can count Haaland too. Dias's problems are not unrelated to the absence of injured players. The injuries to some players have forced Pep to play the same players time and again, which has ruined their form.

Which team doesnt play their best players in every game ? Most of the teams do that...i agree that Haaland should be rested a bit more ,but shouldnt be that big of a problem.

Villa got top 4 with him last season. Solid on the ball and generally a safe midfielder on the ball. Villa have struggled more this season because Tielemans and Onana don't give them the same balance.

Option to play him and Kovacic and have a bit more energy. It's January, we aren't going to get an elite midfielder very easily. He is about the best we can do, particularly if it's on loan.

re fitness, we outran PSG 125 to 120 total Kms. (and i think we regularly cover more distance than the oppo)

It would seem that it's more what we're doing with our energy, rather than (not) having it at all.

Yeah, light in the years. And able to complete 90 minutes of an intense game.

Kova by the way is the least of our midfield problems. Kev, Gundo and Bernie being too old to keep up athletically with younger players and their natural superior talents having eroded for all 3 makes us an easy team to get at and also to dispossess.

Luiz and say Ezequiel Palacoius in for Kev and Bernie yesterday and its a 50/50 fight in the middle. Even with Kova in there.

You haven't heard about rotation?

Luis should be the best CM at City if he showed up today. So i don't get all the arrogance about not wanting him. He is better than Kova, Bernie, Kev, Gundo, O'Reilly, Mctee and Jack.

In short, we don't have a healthy player who has played midfield for us this season who$e better than Luiz. :(

If I remember rightly, in the Pep Confidential book there is a story from when he was playing at Barcelona and Johan Cruyff was coach. They were losing 1-0 at half time and some of the players stated that some were running more than others and the opposition. Cruyff's response was that they were doing too much running and not working the ball enough.

You do more running chasing the ball which is probably why Kovacic is gassed around the 65 minute mark

They did, however that means nothing, there are plenty of players who have won the title, (but 99% of us, including you) would think that they are average at best.
Maybe the extra CL games are a bigger effect on Villa than 'balance' ?
Best we can do...means we end up with someone getting big wages but not playing, especially if they are no better than what we have? Is he?....my opinion is no, if the club think he is, then fair enough. I think your 'solid & safe' sums up Kovacic perfectly.
What I find strange is Brazil have the Madrid crybaby and Savinho wide (I don't think either are as good as hyped...however...).....and then Paqueta, Bruno, Diaz, and the Atalanta player Ederson? in the middle of the park....the fact Brazil are wank currently, would suggest that at least 3 of those 4, are not particularly good....yet we seem to want all of them?

Your opinion is different to mine....very different ;)
We let the buyback expire for a reason, and Juve can't wait to get rid, again for a reason.
Only way we find out, is if he signs....and I really hope you're right!
