PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Personally I want us out of the Champs League ASAP. Were not going to win it, so what's the point. Less games, less injuries, less tiredness. Just qualify for next years Champs League and maybe win the FA Cup. Plus we've got the big money making Club World Cup in summer !!!!
If you’re in it, you’ve got to try to win it???

Because we are not entitled to anything!!??

Call me old fashioned, but when I started watching City, European Cup, let alone Champions League, was not even a dream!!!

CWC, is a made up Mickey Mouse Trophy, which comes a long way after PL, CL, FAC , League Cup and Charity Shield, in my list of priorities!!! IMHO :0)

Quite depressing last night but a case for the defence. We are lacking key players at the back and rushing them back to early. Ake, Dias and Stones always seem to be injured and we are constantly having to change the defence. One or both of the two new defenders are likely to start on Saturday. Rodri is also injured and we are hugely reliant on him keeping the ball. Kova had a mare last night ,constantly giving the ball away. We need an option at defensive midfield ,whether that is Douglas Luis we will see.
They were also very good and would have possibly beat us under normal circumstances. I disagree with the criticism of Kev because he and we are still creating chances. Confidence is the biggest problem but providing the new players can make an impact , this should return.
Biggest problem is no LB, no RB and no CDM, tacklers in the team and too soft all over the park!!!

Which really should have ruled out the 4th goal
Guardiol definitely challenged for the ball so it was deliberate even if it didn't go where he intended. Not even sure whether the PSG player who scored was in an offside position when the first pass was played (the last time a team-mate touched the ball).

In fact you're right, I've just watched it again. It comes off Guardiol, then hits the back of the PSG player's head, so he was the last one to play it. Bad decision.

The marking for what turned out to be the third crucial PSG goal was bizarre. Virtually the full City team within the width of the 18 yard line, I was thinking that doesn’t look very secure. Very similar to what turned out to be the crucial goal when we got beat on away goals at Monaco in Pep’s first season.
I’ve said it repeatedly mate, we defend too narrow, which leaves space easy to find in behind. Also, we shouldn’t be making defensive substitutions when defending a dangerous set piece, this is one of the basics of coaching. We removed our ‘right back’ for a centre back and what happened…. Confusion, lapse in concentration and they score from the position where our ‘Right back’ should have been.

True. Just looking for silver linings here. It’s too easy to be a negative Nancy
I also think that these guys are aging, and we have to be real here. This team has had the most international players, meaning they really haven’t had a full break since Covid. Three years straight with zero break is a lot to put on your body. I think it’s why we see what Rodri warned about last season….burnout. Not only mentally but physically. This year we have been ravaged by injuries. This season unfortunately was inevitable. Securing top 4 is vital. Getting into the knockout stage in ucl this year is not

Yes he did, but he didn’t ‘play’ the ball, it deflected off him. The rule is a major grey area.

Unfortunately I’ve a feeling it’s just not going to be as simple as some people think. We are a shadow of the team we were last season and could quite easily be humbled if they get on the front foot.
I think it will be as difficult a game as any we’ve faced this season. It will be tough, with scary moments, but I think we will just have enough to see us through. It won’t be as simple as some suggest though.

It appears to me that this PSG game has tipped a lot of people over the edge. Seems to be the one, even more than losing a 3-0 lead at home.

Agree it's a 50/50 game.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be the control of a game this season, which has been second nature under Pep.
City have to win, so will Pep go for only one holding midfielder ?
It's an intriguing tie...

Nunes was our RB!!??

Before the substitution :0)

Much as I would hope that he would have been at the back post, for the 3rd goal free kick :0)

The way we were defending in the 2nd Half, I would not guarantee it !!!! :0(

Let’s hope on Wednesday against Bruges, that Nunes is nowhere near the RB spot!!!
:0) LOL

Because he was poor. Persistently losing possession and making wrong decisions.
IMHO, Savinho.

In the 1st Half, beat their RB, Hakmi on a few occasions :0) got a shot off on target from his own efforts!!

Was a constant threat to their RB and ran back on several occasions to help out in our defence of their turnovers!!

This didn’t happen enough in the 2nd Half and I would have kept him on in the second half!!?? :0)

And I know where our 2 goals came from!! :0)

But that was it 4 minutes out of 45 minutes!!
IMO!!!

Think it will be (RB) Lewis - Akanji - Stones - Gvardiol (LB)

Yes he did on a couple of occasions. But on too many ran into trouble and lost possession. He did shoot and should have scored on at least one occasion, whilst on other occasions he should have passed. He’s still a bit raw and need to learn when to shoot, when to pass etc.

It was maybe the sheer inevitabilty of it all. Once we conceded one there isn't one guy (maybe @LangleyBlue1970) who thought it was going to end well. Its horrible to watch him trot out Gundo and Kev and there not even shadows of themselves, they're like the evil version of themselves...all they need are goatees..
