PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I truly expected us to go large the window after the treble & start our succession planning in earnest. IIRC, the only major signings we made were Gvardiol, the panic buy Nunes & Kovacic who essentially replaced Gundog.

It seems like the club recognised the urgent need for a rebuild last summer, but Pep declined. I'm putting two & two together here, but reports suggest he was seriously considering making this his last season with us, before moving to the UAE to reunite with his wife.

Could it be that Pep wanted to leave the rebuild to a new manager, hence him turning down the opportunity & opting for one last lambada with his all conquering, but ageing squad?
I think this is most likely the reason for lack of purchasing. The CL final was not as good as the FA Cup final interms of playing. We got through last season and the gods were with us on 14 April when Arse and Dippers both lost unexpectedly which gave us the 2 point cushion. The FA Cup final was an absolute embarrassment, the attitude was dreadful - made ushited look good.

I am not going to speculate on Peps private life, none of my business, but seems a complete 360 from strongly hinting at the end of last season that this was his last to then signing for 2 more years.

Last night felt like he was old guard ( no pun at all) compared to Enrique who had a fresh, lively, young, modern pressing team with a superb deployment of the false 9.

Where do we go from here team and tactic wise???

They outplayed us and their manager did better. The better team won. We have to admit it at this point.

Absolute shit show last night , the players should be embarrassed . As someone stated earlier we don’t have a divine right to win any game or trophy but the minimum expectation is to compete .
Strikes me that after Istanbul an air of complacency descended on the club .

Ffs wait until the rebuild is complete

Have you seen our defence. Defence and midfield needed a rebuild. Half the defence are injury prone. We’ve solved one issue with that. Defence was a major issue going into this window, we have new defenders which will make us better.

Midfield should be next.
Our defenders got so many injuries because of the non exist midfield.

I agree.
It’s a slippery slope too.
Miss out on CL next season. Miss our first choice targets in the summer, a few players leave then possibly miss out season after too.

We need legs in the midfield and a left back.
Surely we can as a bare minimum get someone to just do a job in midfield until the end of the season.
If we can’t buy why won’t he try Oreilly and Wright? We are losing games anyway and learning nothing new about Kovacic Bernardo Gundo or Kev. What’s stopping him playing them?

You know someone is being a bell when they’re playing down the treble and 4 in a row haha!

Why are people moaning about the need for new players, when that is clearly happening. Last night we lost to a team who played really well.
Yes, PSG played really well - after going two goals down against a side that played a ridiculously high line without a full back (at all!) who could tackle, and with a midfield with no legs! Last season at 2-0 up we pass the ball around, keep it for 15 mins and the game's over ... So, we do need players but as yet we haven't signed a midfielder despite 3 of our 3 or 5 man midfield being over 30 and our all time great on whom we still rely being nearly 35! As yet we have signed a very welcome and much needed replacement for Alvarez and two CBs, both very talented and promising but neither ready for the fist team yet. Much of our rebuild hasn't really started yet. At the moment we live in hope that we can make do and mend until summer or that we are active in the transfer market in what remains of this window, because, as Pep said, we need a bigger squad with a lower average age and this cannot be achieved by ushering out older players.

I'd like to see the age range of these inpatient fans.
It's a fair point. Like most of us, I was one of the 250,000 at York away, and as a FOC, I dreamt of glamour games at Chestefield and Macclesfield.

And I also know that this current incarnation of City might one day blow away - even though I will still be there home and away (and excited to to visit Barnet or Ketting Town).

BUT...for those there last night, like myself, it is not about 'entitlement' or an attack on the unprecedented brilliance of Pep or any of the players (well maybe Rico and Nunes...), but it would be nice to not throw away a two goal lead. I expect nothing from my club other than to give it the very best for 90 mins, at least for the fans who have shelled out loads of cash to be there to support - is we lose, so be it - and we lost to the better team.

I know it's much easier when you watch it on TV. Rant for a moment, kick the cat and that switch over to 'Traitors'...but if you've made the effort and investment to be there, you have every right to expect Pep to pick the best squad and for the lads to give 100% on the night. And last night, I don't think they did.

Anyway, sitting opposite the PSG shop at Charles de Gaulle - which is making more grumpy than normal...

As you say, we are getting run over the top of, so in Pep’s doomsday scenario how much worse can they be?

Every team we play know that if they are still in it at 60 minutes, we will start to flag.

This is completely understandable given the age profile, the injuries and the enormous number of important games we’ve played over the past 5 years.

We need to take this season on the chin and look forward to the rebuild.

Do you not think the management know what we need. People need to be patient.

The players are living in a fantasy world were everything will be ok. We won so much I can hear them say, we used to pass to each other no problem and keep the ball. We have no Rodri…..

On and on and on it goes. All you hear after a defeat is that we need to do better and they don’t.

Reality check, stop living on past glories and admit you are now bang average players who were elevated for a few seasons due to pep. Now he is left with an aging squad who can’t pass the ball nor keep it under pressure. Never mind having the stamina to press anyone.

Let’s all pretend everything is going great until the next collapse.
