PSG (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

You're making excuses for megabucks PSG. You say 'I think they had some tough matches'. That's the whole idea of the competition - tough matches. They have no excuses given their colossal resources.
The same as us regarding resources.
I'm not making excuses at all. Just pointing out that they have had tough matches.
The likes of Munich and Madrid aren't exactly on the breadline either and are just 2 points ahead of them.

What are our excuses as we have similar megabucks
PSG's megabucks players have delivered nothing of note for 14 years - other than processional French league wins against vastly inferior opponents. Our players have delivered off the scale glory and some of our players are on the last lap. Amazing that it's taken this long for us to dip like this.

You say you're not making excuses, but your comments read as though you are.

We have one more CL than them in fairness. They continue to dominate domestically as we have previously. Don’t think the other poster was wrong to say they’ve had harder fixtures in this CL than us this season.

Agree.

Plus that was a new look PSG last night. No big tine Charlie's. Lots of youth and they worked there bollocks off. That's one of the best examples of a team using a high press against us. I'm talking defensive masterclass from them.

The defense needs 2 a fullback. Left and Right
Midfield needs 2 Center Mids a 6 and an 8
The goalkeeping needs a starter ( Assuming Eddy is leaving)

That's 5 needed in the summer. We can mitigate that by getting 2 more players this winter. A CM/DM and a fullback.

If we do that, we will make top 4. If we don't it'd be touch and go.

Kev, Gundo, Berny, Kova are all not good enough to play the open expansive football we want to play. And are too old to press consistently.

The more they strain to press ( as Kev and Bernie often do) the worse their game gets when they are on the ball. And if they don't press, we are so soft to pass around and are far more toothless. And none of them can last 65 minutes comfortably.

All 4 should be moved on in the summer.

I completely agree 100% with this assessment.

PSG - putting in possibly the best performance I've ever seen from them beat us 4 - 2. They were stellar - but one such performance - at home - from their megabucks players in seven matches tells you a lot about that team. They are 22nd - every side is where they deserve to be.
Including us unfortunately.

If we weren't looking for a midfielder, after last night we will be. It showed just how our whole system shuts down when we haven't got the energy in the middle of the park and are against a quality opposition. Kovacic tried to do the same thing to PSG that he did against Ipswich but was closed down, pressured and gave the ball away continuously.

When our defence had the ball we had no one getting that bit of space to receive it so we had to play longer passes or riskier ones and gave it away. What we did to Ipswich they did to us. It was a disaster and because we couldn't get the ball or keep it we became more and more ragged and had no solution. Pep's never going to turn us into Forest and have us sit back and counter, but he has to do something different in the middle of the park. Gundo and Kovacic is fine against the bottom 5 teams in the league. It's not enough against everyone else.

Even if it's just a player who passes the ball straight back to a defender or only goes sideways, we need someone that provides the balance and lets the attacking players know it won't go to shit if we lose the ball. We end up with everyone trying to defend and no one as an outlet because we're so rattled. Marmoush should make a difference with the balance because of his pace and versatility, but we still need someone in the middle of the park. Luiz would be a solid stop gap. He plays it safe, covers the ground and gives us a great shout of top 4/5. But then we need some real quality in the summer.

Rodri does fix a hell of a lot of our current issues of course.

May be it doesn't tell you about PSG, it actually tells you a lot about Man City. This is because such shambolic performance has been the case of Man City in many games in the last two months.

Its not guaranteed though. Someone above us with less than 11 points need to not win for us to qualify.

We might still fail to qualify with a win.
Brugge will be behind us as we are playing them.
The only team that could spoil the part is is Zagreb who would have to better our GD by 10 goals.

Do you not think the management know what we need. People need to be patient.
I do trust Pep implicitly but I think he's led us to believe that there would be significant rebuilding this window. There may well be but supporters have been shocked so far this season and rather than patience from us we would prefer action from the club. It may well be this isn't possible, in which case we will have to accept that and be patient.
