Public sector pay since 2010

Could be wrong, but doesn't the debt attract interest, something like 1.5%?

If so, with a 40k debt, £20 won't cover the interest accrual.
1.5% is the old interest rate (I pay that on mine). It's a lot more now meaning that when coupled with the higher tuition fees, it is very likely that only the highest earners will ever pay their tuition fees back - I think after 30 years they are cancelled.
You are right about it not covering the interest. I know teachers starting now will owe more after a year of paying back than.they did before they started paying it back - nurses and paramedics on similar wage so will be the same.

I agree, with the caveat that she should have to do it for a length if time, say 5 years, or she would have to pay it back.
No problem with that at all, I’d do it over a ten year period, 10% per annum paid off for them.
I remember that as an idea in the TV program the West Wing many moons ago.

Off topic but ive got to get it off my chest as these last few posts have brought it all flooding back. The **** from the student loan company that hounded me for 12 months, jesus man, what a prick of a bloke he was. Scottish fella, real smart arse, passive aggressive, snidey, nagging ****. He would not give over. I remember him once saying 'if you want to get into a chess with me Mr One Ball, let me assure you I will prove to be Gary Kasparov'. Omg what a twat he was.

And he’s working in a call centre, should have told him he’s the fucking loser

She shouldn’t have to pay a penny, she’s been educated to provide a service for all
Not sure if i agree with that but she shouldn't have to pay it back unless she is earning a decent living wage, and then depending on what she earns (the more) would mean she would pay a higher % per year.
Atm, once a teacher is earning over £18k they have to start paying back 9%. Thats across the board.

Havingjust read the above online, surely this is wrong.
If a student is earning the lowest threshold for repayments they shoupd have a smaller % compared to the higher earners. A staggered system?
If the site is correct then surely this system is wrong and again favours the higher earmers over the lower earning graduates?

Start at 4% and for every £3k you can increase the percentage by 0.5%. This wont onlyhelp the graduates but it will also help driver the economy forward to as people will have more spare change.
