hi y'all, i'm trying to think wtf am i doing on a city forum everyone knows i'm a plastic!
Give it a rest now, it's not even remotely amusing.mergatroid said:Dude tell me this isn't fucking true? I've never seen City play and tell people that Manchester is blue, I feel a bt of a tit now dude.
mergatroid said:I'm confused? On here it's "This City is ours" and "Manchester is blue" etc. I'm in America and have been going round spouting this to people when I talk about our club. Even when the Man U lot laugh at me I stick to this as I thought it was true. I even argued the point while at a business meeting with a Man U fan from Manchester and believed I was on solid ground. Then on this thread people are saying that in fact there are more Man U in Manchester than City and I've even had a pm telling me that that is the case?
I feel a right dick now and wonder why people would make this up?

Location: America Hey dude, did you manage to find a pub in Manchester showing the game (I saw your thread yesterday saying you were struggling)?
I tried to watch City on a stream but it changed to the Man U match and then to the Everton match when I found another, streams can really piss me off man.
How did you make out? Dude.

Mergatroid, you're quite within your rights to suggest that City are Manchester's true club, after all the rags have been in the borough of Trafford for decades - hence why we say 'This City is ours'
I think if you go back through history City have always been a club that have had teh majority of its fanbase based in Manchester whilst since 'Munich' and the busby babes the rags have always tended to draw fans from far and wide.
As for who's got the most fans in Manchester, the last couple of decades of almost permanent success for the rags and the fact that people have become a lot more transient in terms of where they live in the UK (many moving away from Manchester to find jobs) I think its reasonable to suggest that the rags have more fans in and around Manchester - but then what do you expect after the contrasting fortunes of the two clubs ? Also I do think with family break up being prevalent many of the blue families who have supported for generations have started to fragment and traditional family ties to a particular club have begun to end. I know blues who have kids who have started supporting the rags and women have started to get into football far more and exert their own influences.
That said, most of these 'fans' are plastic jonny come lately's who will turn up in a pub, put on a rags shirt and pretend they're a Utd fan. City understandably don't attract this type of supporter (although times they are a changing !) therefore most blues who watch the games in the pub will all be blue through and through and proper football fans.
Those blues who don't go to home games and watch in the pub are in my experience true blues who typically do so not out of choice but of of necessity and the for financial reasons - the same can't be said for rags.
I do think that City attract more of Manchester's working class fans and as such many are now not choosing to watch the game in the pub but actually watch the game at home with much cheaper 'tinnies' on a free stream. The bandwagon rags and success junkies don't suffer such similar hardship and pile down to the pub money in pocket !
Having said all the above there are still blue strongholds and I was in a pub full of blues yesterday with not a rag or the rag game in sight.
So the rags may have more 'fans' in Manchester these days but I use the term very loosely and City are still and always will be Manchester's true club.
