Pulp Fiction

I like Tarantino's movies but, unlike some others, I find them all a bit too derivative to go so far as to describe any of them as the greatest movie of all time.
For example:
Maybe, if I hadn't seen the Taking of Pelham 123, I'd have been more impressed by all the Mr Pink, Mr Black stuff in Reservoir Dogs.
Maybe if all of his narratives didn't deteriorate into Sam Peckinpah homages, I'd be more impressed, too.
It's no co-incidence that his better movies (for me, anyway) have involved the intertwining of different stories because he does have a weakness, as a writer, in that he struggles to maintain the viewers (or his own?) interest in a sustained narrative. The clumsy plot twist in From Dusk to Dawn being the most glaring case in point.
To Tarantino's credit, he has a great ear for dialogue, uses music as well as if not better than any director today and can certainly get the best out of his character actors (perhaps this latter point is a consequence of his fractured writing style).

He creates great characters and puts them in interesting and entertaining situations. In that respect, he's quite like my favorites, the Coen Brothers. Where I'd say the Coens are better, is that their movies have far more variety and nuance and, more importantly, they can see the tale through to a satisfactory conclusion.

As for the poster who questioned Samuel L Jackson. You've got a point. He's largely been a one trick pony. Albeit, a very entertaining trick, mind. That said, his role in Django indicates that he's capable of more than than always being the likeable tough guy.

Pulp Fiction is a classic film for me because the script is so tight. There is hardly a word wasted at all. A gangster film that makes you laugh your tits off in every scene.

Brilliantly directly with the still camera setting, the acting, the casting of every single character, the 20 odd lines that can be quoted, the mad stories intertwined and if you don't agree....

.....if any of you pricks move I'll execute every one of you muthafuckers.

I love Pulp Fiction, it blew me away when I first watched it, and it's one of those films that you can watch over and over again. Soundtrack was great too, I think I've still got it on cd somewhere.
Not a great fan of Tarrentinos other work. Disk 'til Dawn was good, Jackie Brown was shite. Django was a great return to form.

True Romance is his best film for me, didnt direct it but he was the writer.

Pulp is a very good film, criminal that Samuel L didnt win an Oscar for his part and it went to Martin Landau for Ed Wood.

I think he's a terrible actor Samuel L. Jackson. In his entire career he's had one solitary Oscar nomination and didn't win that!

Granted he played the part of Jules very well, but he's vastly overrated and has somehow earned himself legendary status among the top Hollywood stars.

Clearly you've never had the pleasure of seeing Snakes on a Plane.

On Tarantino I'd say Reservoir Dogs is my personal preference.

It's an ok film, ridiculously overrated though.

inglorious Bastards is my favourite Tarantino film. Followed by kill bill vol 1.
