Pundits/co Commentators?

They use the same spelling we did until Samuel Johnson thought we should latinise English and changed spellings in his dictionary.

However DEEEEE-FENCE pisses me off as a pronunciation.
Except they spell it DefenSe!

US English was codified by Noah Webster's dictionary in 1828. Ironically, his dictionary was closer to the style of English used in England at the time

I thought the american team commentating was refreshing and reminded me of an ice hockey match. He made every incident seem exciting and felt like he was loving every minute. Great stuff!

I haven't watched an entire WC game. I've watched a good number of first halves, but as soon as a pundit of whatever persuasion and shirt colour appears, it tends to kill my continued viewing stone dead. I'd probably see most games if 'crowd noise' was an audio option I even watched the first half of County v Charlton last night and then called it a day at HT.
Couldn't agree more, keep crowd noise and bin off all commentary.
Always baffled me why anyone would want to hear a commentator....don't have them in the ground ;)

Same here. The only games I've watched all through have been England's. Commentators and pundits are getting worse. Forgive me for asking, but why did we have 3 women on the pitch last night talking about a men's international ? Would we have had 3 blokes doing the same after a Lioness' game ? Not a chance. Even Mrs Bill remarked on it. Nowadays it all seems to be about PC and jobs for the boys/girls. Some of them must have bloody good agents.

I think the crowd would have vanished by HT had we suffered 45mins of any of the current commentators.

Get to half time I just turn it off ....... it’s sadly it’s all about ticking boxes now ........ the likes of Jermaine fooking Jenas a man who did nothing of note telling players who have won things where there going wrong is fooking laughable ......... at least Rat boy and Keane achieved something unlike that clown ......... as for the female pundits imagine if all of a sudden a bunch of men took over there shows ??????

I've never understood why we have pundits: do we really need people telling us what we've just seen? Analysing every inch of footage just to get slow motion close-ups of an incident that we ourselves have just watched? Most of us have digital recorders so we can have as many replays as we like.
I absolutely resent these people sitting there waffling on and on, assuming we're all imbeciles who don't understand the game ("Y'see, his shot went way over the bar and into row Z, but I don't reckon he meant to do that.").

But it's spreading into most televised sports these days: horse racing, swimming, table tennis, you can bet your life there will be three or four 'experts' sitting in the studio, dissecting trivial incidents that nobody cares about anyway.
