Most pundits do not have the cerebral elasticity to be a coach or a manager. That is the reality and why they end up on the couch talking waffle bollocks. On top of that, certain media channels seem to want ex red cartel players as the pundits without any real vetting of the quality of their input and comments. Some may call this ongoing evidence of media bias. In any other industry most of them would have been sacked for poor performance. I don't like it, but football punditry is of a very low quality and the pundits haven't got the emotional resilience to provide non biased analysis. For these reasons, when I watch a game on TV I turn it on just before kick off and watch something else at HT. It would be great if all football coverage was like Amazon Prime where you can turn the commentary off.
On a separate, but related note, all Alan Shearer is able to say when commentating is 'Good pass', 'Great tackle', 'He is playing well tonight' ....etc etc...and he's no doubt paid millions for that total garbage. Also, I remember him saying that Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup was good for football and no mention of one of the most controversial decisions in recent finals. So, in effect praising the smash and grab victory. What if someone that really needed the money stole his watch? Would he say that that's good for egalitarianism and the fair redistribution of wealth in society? No, he'd say I wanna get that thieving basxxxx. I've digressed a little bit, but Alan Shearer is simply dining out on his reputation as a footballer and he was an excellent footballer. But, he's stealing a living like a lot of the pundits we have to endure on UK TV and radio.
