Punk and New Wave thread.

Love the Chelsea song. Did they do anything else of note?
Love it in Billy Idol's book, when he and Tony James were in Chelsea (Billy on lead guitar) and Idol / James wrote Youth Youth Youth and thought with Gene October singing it aged 27 it just wasn't right. The pair quit Chelsea and formed Generstion X and Youth Youth Youth was on their first album

Love the Dead Boys too and Stiv Bators when in Lord's of the New Church.
Killed crossing the road in Paris when living there with Johnny Thunders
I don't know of anything else by them mate. It is a great song though.
I just pulled out my old singles yesterday and that was the first one I threw on the turntable.

Interesting re: the lads from Generation X. I didn't know that at the time (although I think you brought it up on here a few months back).

I'll going through the old records soon and posting some up on here.

Saw Chelsea 2 or 3 times early 80's. The last time when I voluntarily went on the dole as I couldn't be arsed working.....
Right at the end of The Right To Work, there was a 2 second silence between applause and the next song.
I shouted out "The right not to work" which drew a few laughs

It was only after I moved here I got to learn about and appreciate the whole mid-70s Cleveland proto-punk scene and Dead Boys, Rocket from the Tombs, electric eels, Pere Ubu. A lot of great stuff.

Bloody hell.... Pere Ubu. Not heard that bands name in years! Great gig at the Poly.... think the Modettes were in support.

It's funny what happens when you move eh? ; )

A fair few bands here in Toronto as well that I had never heard of before I moved here. Not necessarily the greatest but Toronto did have it's own punk scene that was thriving.

I saw these guys a couple of times as a 15/16 year old. Along with the B Girls, Diodes, Dents etc.

Saw them a few times in Edinburgh
One time Hearts were playing Chelsea FC in a pre season friendly
There was the usual skirmishes after the game but I spotted a mob of punks with the away fans so of course silly me just walked over and through the police cordon and right in amongst them to ask if they were going to the gig that night.
They didn't even know they were playing and I got plenty verbals off the other Chelsea lads who presumed I was mental

Great concert tho

Back in 1977 I was listening to very different music, but the punk scene in Dublin was different to that in Britain. I mean when the Boomtown Rats started they were considered punk and you can hear the political in Geldof in singles like, Looking after Number 1.
Some people even considered U2 in the punk or post punk category when they started, but nah! They weren’t.
There were a load of bands that you probably never heard of outside of Ireland like The Radiators from Space, The Vipers, The Blades, The Atrix.
There still is stuff on YouTube for some of their stuff.

Saw them myself early 80s at least once. They had a fairly small cult following. Strange really as they were decent but I never took to them though. Too many other bands had a better sound IMO.
