Punk and New Wave thread.

This may only be of marginal interest to most people who keep tabs on this thread but I am currently reading this newly published and quite remarkable biography of J.G. Ballard, who is acknowledged to have been a major influence on the punk/post-punk movements and musicians like Ian Curtis and Daniel Miller:

Sample quotation:

‘In his interview with V. Vale in 1982, Ballard had spoken about wanting to have a cruise missile stationed at the bottom of his garden. “This beautiful bird sitting there waiting to fly towards the air will give me a real sense of involvement with the world.”’

More here for anyone whose interest has been piqued:

These lists are always wrong and this is no exception. Some good stuff mixed in with some absolute shite. As ever, their definition of “punk” is much, much, much broader than mine and probably most people’s who are from the UK and aged 55+

I only saw the first one and I'd never heard of them , not a good sign.

Candid recording made by the legendary Danny Fields capturing Lou Reed’s immediate reaction to hearing the Ramones for the first time.

Clash at 1 and 2, The Clash, London Calling, Pistols Bollocks at 3, I’ve got Ramones albums but no way is any of their material better punk music than The Clash or the Pistol’s but I guess it’s just personal choice.
