QF 1st Leg Post Match Thread

He is the best coach I know but I don't think he got it right at Spurs, and I feel he has a habit of tinkering at this stage in this competition, often unsuccessfully.
Whilst I don’t disagree to a point, could it be that it’s required to keep legs fresh. First year trying to secure top 4, second year winning league, this year winning everything. That’s likely why, prue coincidence and squad management.
I think he feared new stadium and atmosphere may have created an Anfield scenario, hence the more defensive set up. Nearly worked, we shall see what he does Wednesday, I’m guessing full on offensive.

As long as I don't get an answer why Pep put Delph at LB
in a tight Anfield away like setup (which I wouldn't have done, but anyway)
instead of Danilo (not even in the squad) or Laporte (with Stones or Vinnie as right CB)
I won't get any wiser.

Delph might be ok to take workload vs bottom half PL sides, but he's not a CL player for me.

Both Danilo and Laporte have much more defensive quality compared to Delph, we all know that.

If Pep wanted to play a tight setup, why didn't he do it then?
Answers only appreciated from Pep himself.
We know why, spurs strength isn’t out wide, so Delph essentially extra body in midfield

It's always the players who score the goals or who make the mistakes.

You are doing a Pep and over-complicating it. Play your best players in the biggest games. You don't see Ronaldo and Messi on the bench in the big games. Very sad to see de Bruyne and Sane sat on the bench watching City toil. I can't say that we would have won with them, but I am pretty convinced that was far from City's best side.

To know Pep didn't play "the best players", you will obviously have insight into who was fully fit, who had niggles who was recovering from injury and needed time management, how training during the week went, what the strategy was, what was the objectives for the game, what the priorities were etc etc, so please Marv, put us out of our misery and tell us and then all those challenging you will say, "you know what, Marv was spot on" and aren't we blessed with someone on the inside posting on here.

You are (appearing to) be basing your argument on a single game, not a bigger picture - that is why pep manages at the club and why you manage on your keyboard (that wasn't meant to be ridiculing you btw).

A lot of people still seem a little pissed with the result,,think of it from a spurs fan point of view, going to the home of the champions who have been banging them in all season with a very narrow advantage and having two key players missing, i bet their are not that many spurs fans who are so confident and a bit of a game plan problem for them,do they take the game to us and try for a goal which will probably put the tie to bed or do they sit back and hope to get a break, i think they will do the later so in reality it just becomes like any other game at home where we have to break them down,no doubt we will do that at some point in the 90 minutes and when we do it will send them into panic mode and we will end up banging a few in,,if i was a betting man their is no way i would be putting any cash on spurs to pull it off

The same people moaning about pep playing delph Mahrez etc against spurs are the ones who would moan all the same if we beat spurs and then played those guys at palace and lost
I would also guess they were moaning that Laporte couldn’t play left back against hoffenhiem
And also that kdb shouldn’t play Cardiff Brighton and spurs as it’s too many games after an injury

Long and short if we don’t win every game it’s peps fault
When did we become so entitled

Guardiola explained his decision not to play de Bruyne in his post match press conference. He said it was tactical and he wanted to play two holding midfielders.
