Question for City fans in the States

I've been meaning to ask this question for a while and finally got around to it. I see a lot of posters on here have their location in some respect to the U.S., or have posted about being in the U.S. Just out of pure curiosity, I was wondering if any other posters on here with locations in the U.S. are born and raised Americans with no ties to Manchester, or England for that matter? Nothing malicious in this post, I'm just wondering if any others are like me and just flat out picked City as the club they wanted to follow?

However, all City fans feel free to post any questions or comments in this thread about City fans in the States. I will gladly answer any questions, and I'm sure my Yank brethren will do the same.

Born and raised in America, no ties to England or Manchester. Ricky Hatton was my favorite fighter so City seemed the natural choice for me.

Also, I've always hated United and their legions of American supporters so that's a bonus.

If not City I'd be a Birmingham supporter as I hate their owner and his American football team.

I thought all the yanks were Arsenal/Barcelona/Liverpool fans?

I know two Arsenal fans and maybe three or four Liverpool fans. One buddy of mine likes Stoke but is a Red Sox fan who is thinking of switching to Liverpool.

Everybody else likes United. It's so bad here that when you ask somebody who they like they say "United" like they don't realize there are other clubs. If Fergie got any play here and people saw some of his antics it would be a different story though.

i have a question, why do you lot say he sucks, over here we say it as it is and that would be.. get that useless twat off he s shit

Depends on the player, I mean if it was Ashley Cole

When you tell a septic (or a Mexican) you're from Manchester the first thing 95% of them say is 'Oh Manchester United right?' They don't even have to particularly like football, it's the first thing they say. Most of them don't know we exist. Fine by me. The ones who have heard of us only know about Tevez.

How easy is it to watch the matches over there?

Every league match is on Fox Soccer, ESPN2 or foxsoccertv.com. So far I've missed the League Cup against WBA and all of the Europa League group matches. I pretty sure their next Europa match will be on GolTv but their FA Cup match w/ Notts County probably won't be on.

Their coverage is amazing

They get to see all the games, they have better coverage than we do.

But they have to suffer Warren Barton in a power suit talking right at the camera. No worse than Redknapp though

Smart. I only ask because I follow Tampa in the NHL and to do that I pay £13 a month to get the ESPN Player online, it's the only feasible way of watching every game. ESPN America have 'select' games on and 5 usually follow some of the Stanley Cup, but beyond that, it is crap.

Born and bread Mancunian now living in 'Hotlanta" 40 years in the UK following the habit that is harder to break than any addiction - love em!

Actually, other than the WBA away in the LC every match this season has been shown here, even the Europa League (other than the early qualifying rounds) is shown (i have Direct TV and the coverage is truly excellent) we get all the EPL games either live (4 on a Sat and usually 2-3 on a Sun) or tape delay, the coverage here is better than the UK as they can show the 3.00pm games ive of course!

Havent given up on the Notts County game yet although being on ITV, that will be a challenge!

At least 3 other blues here in North GA that i know, along with pals in Savannah and Jacksonville, Blue are here , Blues are there, Blues are everyfookingwhere......

He's actually pretty decent nowadays and does talk a lot of sense pal, there is a lot worse out there......Tommy Smyth - the smarmy coont for one!!

City fan here, no ties to England or Manchester.

Came to love the club through, of all people, Christiano Ronaldo. I'm Portuguese by descent and Ronaldo was at Old Trafford, so when I really caught the bug with soccer I followed him in in england, but it wasn't as easy to really watch the EPL here back then, saw (and loved) Tevez and caught City a few times. Could never really get any feeling for United even with our beloved portuguese metrosexual on the squad, but absolutely adored how completely off your rocker all the City fans are/were.... just more my style, the way the chants were so self deprecating and funny. So yeah, a real late comer to the cause, it feels somewhat dirty to have not really survived the down times, but you take the time to read up on the history and move forward, with this squad's history there will surely be some down times for me to experience in the future.

As far as TV, it's come a long way as Fox Soccer has propagated in the US. ESPN has taken up the EPL a bit, so I'd say that maybe half or so City games are televised here, the other half I end up streaming thanks to the excellent thread in the match forum. The coverage is pretty one sided against City, but that doesn't seem unique to our soil. Went to the games in NYC this summer and had a blast, it was fun to see you lunatics up close and personal.

edit: I live in Massachusetts, and I was in a supermarket one day wearing my Adam Johnson 11 home shirt and got stopped by a kid to ask me what I thought was going to happen to Bellamy....it was very surreal, don't often get stopped when wearing my city attire (which I wear far too often) but it's a sign of the increased penetration

foxsoccertv.com will have the PL games you're missing live. It's $15/month but worth it imo.

Haha yep when abroad whenever you get asked 'where are you from?' Manchester. 'Ah Manchester United'

I honestly don't mind it.

But in 2000ish I was in a taxi in Rhodes and the driver asked the same question, same answer but different outcome 'Ah Manchester City' then reeled off Dickov, Andy Morrison and the Goat. Then he rolls up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo of our crest, I was pissing myself laughing. Absolute top fella who got a big tip and we used his taxi whenever we could plus he took us the locals' best restaurants.
