Whoever asked about the odds of being kidnapped in this country, just ask the parents of millie dowler, james bulger, Marie wells & jessica chapman etc (the list is frighteningly long), if they like those odds.

As a parent, i would give my life to protect my child, so i would certainly ask them to give some of their 'freedom' (if there is such a thing) until they are 18 and then they can choose to have the chip removed if THEY wish, as long as i can do everything in MY power to keep her safe until then.

Freedom is an over-rated illusion.

Where does the goverment ever come into the picture. Its the parents choice to chop their children and its the children's choice to remove that chip once they turn 18.

I blame ignorant parents that don't seem to realise that children have never been as safe as they are now, they are certainly safer than when their parents or grandparents were growing up.

I'd certainly be concerned that this was the 'first step' to a tagged population. If this happened, wouldn't society then find ways to justify adults? Doubtless starting with the vulnerable and the disabled, before everybody can be instantly tracked and found within minutes.

The UK is already one of the most surveilled countries in the world and one of the safest for children growing up in - microchipping simply adds a level of unnecessary paranoia.

As the dad of a 2 year old I'd seriously consider it if offered but I do see the 'control' element of it all, it would be too easy to be manipulated if huge companies like Sony/Microsoft can be hacked. I wasnt microchipped and made it (so far) to 31 and the same goes for everyone on this board!

Having recently read the case of Alexander Richter and feeling absolutely sick to the pit of my stomach any child rapist/murderer should be given the death sentence, no one has the right to remove a child's innocence like that.

Where does the goverment ever come into the picture. Its the parents choice to chop their children and its the children's choice to remove that chip once they turn 18.

Yeah you think it would be that simple. It gives the powers that be 18 years to change laws regarding this. Throw in a little fear and then thats it the population is chipped forever. 99% of children are born in the NHS, who runs that?

Because it's entirely different, I think. Define 'child'. What age would the young person be within their rights to demand that the chip is removed, to avoid snooping parents checking up on them constantly? There are too many variables, which aren't an issue with a pet, which make all this a bad idea.

Of course you are right. Many doing it for the right reasons but its too open to corruption. It will never happen but I can see why people would want to.
