Question Time

I don't get your point.

The note, as I said, was a standing joke between politicians going back years. It was not serious. You understand the concept of workplace jokes, yeah?

A government with a fiat currency can never, ever run out of money. You don't think they keep government money in a sort of big piggy bank do you? Medieval kings did, in a way. They had a finite money supply. But we are long past that. The government can print paper money (or create it electronically) to an infinite degree. (There are consequences for going too far, but that's not what we're talking about.)

So, an office joke was weaponised and many people took it seriously, and still do!

Meanwhile, the government debt is vastly higher than it was when Labour left office. And to head off objections at the pass, it was before Covid and Ukraine though these things and Brexit have made it worse.

Whether it 'suits' me or not is irrelevant. These are provable facts.

They never let the facts get in the way of a good Tory. :)

Money printing directly leads to inflation and we've seen what inflation can do to people. More of this is not the answer.

Look at Germany, it has strong fiscal rules and so it is not heavily burdened by debt. However it has the kind of economy that we should aspire to. One that is led by physical and tangible growth (manufacturing etc). It is not heavily exposed to the risks in the world financial markets.

The answer is not to rely further upon the intangible whims of monetary policy, the banks or growth of big city finance. Unfortunately though that's where UK PLC growth predominately comes from whilst everything else is suffering.

Don't waste your breath mate, the Starmer fanboys think he us going to solve all the problems with 5 fishes and 5 loaves
Starmer that would have served under Corbyn, the Ukraine wouldnt have ChallengerTanks, Storm Shawdows, training by British troops ect, and he wouldn't of condemned the terror attack against Israel on October the 7th, the man is a fucking snake

You can thank the Tories for that. They deliberately and purposely closed down our manufacturing base (because, “unions”) and deliberately migrated us to a services economy. So they and their mates could get rich for doing very little and fuck the rest of us.
All whilst Germany and other countries looked on incredulously, and rubbed their hands at their sudden good fortune.

Have any of the anti-immigration parties ever suggested who will do the work that Brits won't do if immigration is severely restricted?
They talk as if immigrants only come in to do unskilled work.

This is far from the truth. We need the skills of many immigrants because (among other things) the government and private employers can't be arsed to train people. It costs too much. So taxes will need to rise to pay for it and it will have to be phased in as it takes years to train some roles.

There's a reason the Tory government let in so many, and it's largely due to the needs of the economy. Proof? Well, it was scarcely a political bonus for them, was it?

Similarly, if you want to get Jeff from Kirkby to harvest stuff you're going to have to pay for a) his transport to the work site and b) the cost of his lodgings. Because his family up in Kirkby still needs to pay their rent and other living costs, and so his wages have to pay for that. He can't afford both. BTW there's a good chance Jeff will be shit at harvesting (as it's a skill he does not possess) so his work may not be economic anyway.

As I've said before, in this country we will the ends, but not the means.

Thought I’d have a watch, soon switched off when I saw Rees-Moggs face turn up and tell everybody he’s a devout catholic.

If that’s how religion ‘rules’, you can fuck that.

Turning children of our future into poverty.

I thought the same initially, but, surprisingly, I agreed with him for the first time in my life when he was talking about assisted dying. I thought he made some very valid points with respect to that proposed bill.

I could have torn him one when, in a later discussion, he was saying how wonderful charity was, and my mind went back to his statement that food banks were a welcome and generous addition to the lives of struggling people, but he did appear to be a little contrite at times and prepared to accept some of the failings of his government.

He's still a tory **** though, and the cynicism in me thinks he's trying to soften his image like Michael Portillo did, who was one of the most arrogant and despisable tory ministers while he was an MP, by having a TV show and slowly removing himself from politics.

Most of the people coming here aren’t coming with jobs lined up though. A lot of it is cheap labour on tap. Do you think 700,000 + every year is sustainable?

No its not sustainable

How many house, schools, hospitals etc need to be built each year to cope with 700,000 extra people ?
We can’t even cope with it now. How many new cities will we have to build to match the numbers coming in. It’s already difficult to buy a house, or get your kids a school place or get a doctors appointment - now imagine adding 2 million more people in two years..

Then there’s the point about how do you integrate nearly a million people a year - the whole thing is madness. We’re basically adding another Manchester to the population every couple of years, with no long term plan at all.

The majority of the public want a sensible immigration policy and the numbers reduced , yet successive governments do nothing because they are addicted to cheap labour and GDP going up slightly.

A Tale Of Two Cities is his favourite literary wank fodder.

I think there is a HUGE issue with even speaking about immigration in this country

I think sensible people realise there is an important need for it. My nanna is in a home where 90% if staff are foreign. They are great. Very caring. My nanna loves them and she is of a generation that were maybe not so accepting.

But immigration appears to be wildly out of control.
And its also linked to the 3m of working age who dont work.
