Question Time

Very worrying QT last night - it was staggering - I literally had my head in my hands - the little Englander mentality is alive and kicking - no one, except Campbell, accepted that the lies ( £350m per week, oven ready deal, trade deal with USA ) had anything to do with their vote to leave. More worrying was the undercurrent of fear and hatred of “the foreigner” - we really are in a bad way and I’m not sure there is an east or quick fix.

Every other week according to Brexiteers...

That show last night exactly illustrates why we still continue to have labour shortages and why we will always struggle without major changes. That bunch of jingoistic flag shaggers is your welcome committee when you come here to work via one of those special licences they have set up. Why would you spend £2500 just to come here for up to 6 months whilst being lodged in what looks like a PoW camp and be surrounded by racists?

"The government has authorised only a small number of recruitment companies, known as 'scheme operators', to arrange seasonal worker visas."

What links to the Tory party do you need in order to be authorised?

What struck me last night was listening to an audience member who I assume was a foreigner as she couldn't speak English very well complaining about immigration, not sure if she thought she had the right to close the door behind her when she got in.

You have to hand it to the architects of Brexit, they have muddies the waters so much on the distinction between legal and illegal immigration that the topic is no longer debateable without explanatory notes to most people.

there are no explanatory notes - any immigration to here is illegal - end of - there is no way of persuading an audience like last nights that anything else applies

Hate to say ''I told you so'' ........but I did from the outset.

Brexit was always a racist endeavour.

I’m still a little gobsmacked over QT the other night, mainly because they didn’t have a diverse crowd. Why was there nobody who had changed their mind, why was it just mainly uninformed old people who seemed a little ‘past it’, so to say.

And why didn’t they just ask the pertinent questions of:

Was it the 350 mil to the NHS that you voted for?

Was it the high wages?

Was it the restricting of immigration and refugees?

And so on.

Once they realise that they have not got what they wanted, then ask them what benefit they are seeing and watch their face. Works for me every time.

You must be a hoot at parties:-)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the audience reflect how the country voted in the last GE? That is my understanding anway. That would explain why it's always full of right-wing reactionaries and Tory plants.
It would make more sense for the audience to reflect how the vote went locally at the last GE
.

Apparently it was a special that only had pro-Brexit nutcases who still support it but can’t see benefits, as yet.

If you are going to do that, surely you’d have those who have changed their mind on it, not just people who voted for it because of the stupid stuff that has been posted on this thread.

Embarrassing to say the least.

I'm missing something. Right at the beginning FB explained that the audience was made up of 100 percent leavers, but each was interviewed beforehand to see if they had second thoughts. 60 percent were content with their original vote, 30 percent said they would vote differently now and 10 percent were unsure.

Well, they mustn’t have had any of those 40% on or they ensured they kept their traps shut.

I really hate how the media passes the mic way too often to these voices. Not only does it peddle dangerous untrue dog whistle(many times unchallenged), it perpetuates the stereotype that every white non-urbanite they meet is a racist. Those communities have serious issues outside of the racist lot they pick up. Lazy journalism…
Campbell should have jumped in and asked the bigot how does he know the "facts". Does he follow the refugees from hotels/hostels transit camps to the dole office and stand behind them listening in. He was allowed to spout his nonsense without censure.

Plus the old lady going on about the French and German roofers - what was she on about?
