"I think Liverpool fans need to recognise the differences between where the club used to be and where it is at present, and temper their expectations."

Give me a United fan who lived through their 24 'fallow' years ( Seventies/Eighties) as well as current success over a City fans who lived through 50 years of crap and two years of sugar daddy bought success any day!...give me both and I will get all Anny Road old school on their ass!

I have to say, I did feel that comment would get a few backs up! It was born out of a sense that some Liverpool fans are finding it pretty difficult to reassess their aims and opinions given the backwards steps the club has made in past seasons. It's a similar feeling (although exact opposite situation) to the one I sometimes find myself in. Whilst some Liverpool fans still expect the club to be competing for a top 4 spot, and maybe a title push, there are some City fans (myself included) who still expect City to screw it up, to drop points against any side that is even remotely decent. It's a mindset both sets of fans have got themselves into over the years. Liverpool for a long period were successful season after season, if not always in trophies then certainly in being a competitive side. City on the other hand were regularly mediocre, at their best, and piss poor at their worst. When you've watched years of abject failure it's very hard to readjust your way of thinking and accept that we are now a force to be reckoned with. In the same way, when you've watched years of quality football, trophies and Champion's League football it's hard to accept the reality that, at present, that isn't the case.
