Queues

For those who say it's an inconvenience but if it is guaranteeing our safety we shouldn't be complaining, yes that sounds fine in theory but that should mean that everyone is searched! However that is not the case if not everyone is searched or wanded & that was not happening today. In the queue I was in we reckoned it was only every 6th or 7th person who was checked. If, as someone said earlier the club has said everyone has to be searched, then they are failing in their duty. (The searchers not the club)

I don't think we can blame the security guards. I was outside waiting for someone and watching the queries getting bigger as everyone was being searched. I grumbled to stone supervisors who told me that they were aware that there was a growing problem but the powers that be were saying carry on.

That clearly changed later to checking 1 in 4/6. I have no problem with the increased security providing they either warn us to get there early or appoint more people to speed it up.

Not sure this is relevant to the queue thread, but yesterday, the queues were ridiculously long, and having purchased a small pizza from the concession outside the ground made our way to the queue about 1.15, the original intention was to save the pizza until inside the ground (as indeed i did last home game against Spurs). When i saw the size of the queue, despite joining the shortest i decided to tuck in to the pizza. Fortunately, despite being long, the queue was relatively fast moving, and by the time we reached the "security check" area, i literally had one small piece of pizza left. "Sorry, you can't take that in there" "its alright mate it will be gone before i go through" steward then pulled me aside, as if to say you cant go in with it. I simply stuffed last piece in my mouth, and went in. My mate had finished his quite a bit earlier than me, but still had the small empty pizza box, needless to say , the steward did not bother to check whether box was full or empty, although i must admit, i thought there was no ban on bringing in food purchased outside, and had done so many times without challenge

Talk about heavy handed, jobsworth and a total waste of time

Seems a bit hit and miss to me. My teenage daughter wasn't checked as steward asked if she was under18, (she is 17) and waved her through without wanding her, although I'm sure he'd have loved to have checked her out!

I'm amazed you haven't been asked for photos yet.

Even searching 1 in 10 still has a deterrent effect as you wouldn't know if you would be the one selected, it would lessen the queues outside & those selected could then be searched properly.
It would then also be possible to have a female searcher covering two or more turnstiles to allay accusations of discrimination (or potential terrorists getting a female to smuggle in their device - food)

There is one major reason for doing this imho, and its got nothing to do with security, I think its to get people to turn up earlier. Why ? Because if you arrive earlier, they think you are more likely to buy some of the over priced food/drink inside the stadium. Its that simple.

If anyone wanted to blow themselves up, the best place to maximise casualties, would be in/near one of the stupidly long queues caused by the so called security, outside.

I said this to the idiot in front of me who felt it reasonable to be queuing up and being searched to protect our security.
I asked from whom were we be protected? To which he replied "Muslims", you mean like our owners was my response!

If you're going to do it, do it properly, if not you are wasting everyone's time. The cynic in me says its nothing to do with security and more about stopping people from taking drinks and food in etc.
