Queues

As I was walking to M2 reasonably early the wand was going ape shit on some average looking guy at M1.

I stopped as it's the first time I've heard one go off at the ground to watch. After about 10 bleeps without any questions or patting the guy was just allowed in.

It's really pointless, it was quiet at that time and there was plenty of time to check what he'd got that was agitating the wand.

I was in at 7.15 so no queues then.

Weirdly the lad got scanned with that stick and then head to toe frisked. I was behind him and didn't get either. God job really or they would have found the bottle I had in my pocket!

Arrived at the back of a long queue in N1 around 7:30 got in 7:40 doesn't bother me one bit, fans in the future will get used to it and think it the norm. Its some of us older fans I feel that thinks its a ball ache.

Oh dear. How awful for him. Patting his hood to presumably check something. Showsec were arsey - City fan "complained" or was he arsey too?

Look, the club must be carrying out these checks for a reason - probably our safety. Look at what's happening in the wider world outside football.
The problem seems to be not so much that these necessary checks are being carried out - which will cause delays because everyone arrives near to kick off - but that improvements are required to speed up the process. But even then, checks will STILL be required. It's not going to go away.

What has been the clubs response to your complaints?

Unfortunately the old days of turning up at any public event and just ambling in are gone.

Oh look, Mr f***ing..........

TBH I've got better things to do than get involved with you. After all it is my day off.

But if you think the unorganized, haphazard. farcical, etc, security checks are worthwhile, who am I and other city fans to tell you any different.

God forbid any terrorist or suicide bomber would think twice about causing carnage outside the stadium.

On the plus point, at least it's outside the stadium, and not inside it, in front of the cameras.

Enjoy your security checks and the carnage they would cause outside the stadium if the unthinkable were to ever happen?

The exact same guy scanned me last night as did at the FA cup replay. On that occasion, it beeped as it passed my keys on one side, phone on the other - although he didn't ask what either beep was. Last night however, same guy, same place, same keys, same phone - no beeps! Assume the batteries had gone?
Ha ha, was that Entrance C by any chance? Same happened to me, beeped at the Hudders game where my phone and keys were but nothing last night. No problem with queueing as I was in for 7-10pm but it's going to be fun if it's pissing it down and they start this "unzip your coat and take off your hat" bollocks.

That's sad to read bud, but I'm seeing this comment more and more.

I managed to get into the stadium rather quickly tonight (7pm B1)
Although I was metal detector scanned and asked what was inside my coat.

I too am becoming less happy with this whole match day experience thing.
It's like some special day out at a theme park or something.
It feels less like football to me and more sanitised now.

Maybe day trippers and kids will like this stuff?
I don't know.

I feel I should pull the plug and not renew my seasoncard but a part of me also thinks that City wouldn't miss me anyway and my "protest" wouldn't make much of a difference.

I went into my block I've been going in for donkeys years now and some showsec kid, 17yrs old or something, pestering me to show my proof of where my seat is.... Fuck off you ****, I've been coming through this block for years now and I even recognise this kid as he is stood there every other week.

Is this football or a fucking prison, with constant surveillance?

I must be going to a different ground but City were definitely playing there tonight. I normally go in about 25 mins before kick off. No problem getting in, no problem with any stewards and never have had. I find it incredible that we are on the verge of having a fantastic team next year and people are opting out because of big queues.....the mind boggles. Improvements must be made in these areas by the club in the future.

Strange one this about queues
East level 1 at gates K1 and K2 there are hardly any queues to get in. I rocked up at 7.45 last night and was scanned and in the stadium in just a couple of minutes and this is the norm for these gates

What is making me consider my season card next season are the new parking restrictions, as this is going to cost me around £200 a season to park, or between 2 and four hours per match extra travelling time by using public transport

What are the new restrictions pal?
I haven't heard about them.
Can't you buy a season pass, which may work out cheaper?

Nice to have a sensible chat with you. As I said it's not the requirement to carry out security checks that is the problem - it's a worldwide issue - it's the process that needs to be addressed.

I've contacted the club for an update and just wondered if you had. I just don't understand why people think that moaning on a forum is helpful if you've not first discussed your grievances with the people who can help or explain the situation.

No need to get "arsey"

Message to JRB. Those photos are a joke (not a funny one) round the other side of the ground the queues can be bad but I have never seen them like your photos, bearing in mind how many skipped the game last night I would hate to think what the derby will be like for you. I am scanned every time and not once has it beeped for my phone or keys, they seem to just do a token sweep to get us in as quick as possible, those queues you have photo's of are a disgrace.
People go on about it being for our safety, bear this in mind. The nearest armed police will have been in either the City centre or the airport. A terrorist with an uzi and several clips of ammo would have made a mockery of the security precautions by walking along one of those queues, killing/wounding scores of blues and when he had run out of ammo, buggered off lng before the police arrived. (as long as he didnt leave using the tram !)

How come some gates you can sail through (A +Z) whilst other have queues (Y1 + y2)? Is there nothing that can be done to balance the loads?

Since the scanning came in neither myself ,wife or daughter have been searched which I find strange seeing as the problems most are having. For obvious reasons I'm not going to post what enterance we use but never searched or missed ko. We must b the lucky ones.

Thank you.

Yet some on here would have everyone believe these farcical checks are a necessity.

No, you can't stop a determined or organised terrorist or group of terrorists, but leaving 100's of people exposed to a bomb or gun attack while waiting in queues to get into the stadium is a disgrace. where is the security and putting the safety of fans and people first in that?

As stated. The Police officers and *MCFC* supervisor steward I spoke to last night said this is a *club policy*.

Once again.
1, The sarches, frisks, etc are random.
2. Checking bags, coats, caps, hats, etc, are random.
3. Scanning are random. If the scanners work at all.

Like many other City fans I have seen Showsec Stewards give up and let people in because the queues are too long.

This isn't Airport style security, it's a f***ing joke, implemented by the club. With some entrances with no queues and stewards twiddling their thumbs, while other entrances have 100's of fans queuing on to Alan Turing Way.

And if it's solely about security, why are there plastic bins outside entrances, where people are made to dispose of bottles, cans, and food items? A large bin near an entrance. What a bright idea that is.

Again. A few weeks back I had my metal camera on me inside my coat pocket. It was repeatedly scanned by the hand held scanner that the showsec steward was waving about no beep. I was frisked. He touched my camera. Not once did he ask me what it was, or did he ask to put it on the table. I was let straight in.

Whilst there has got to be security - the shamblic way this is being implemented is actually causing a security issue. Well done JRB for highlighting the unacceptable way fans are being treated.

I haven't had a problem for last two games (Huddersfield and Stoke. Just walked straight up to the turnstile and straight in after 30 second check. But I walked past other turnstiles to see long queues. I don't see the added benefit of thee checks. I doubt that these checks are effective but I don't really know what that wand does or is able to detect. It doesn't bother me too much if the delay is minimal. Not sure what it is overall. The crowd was pretty much in place at KO v Stoke so I assume that overall it wasn't too bad.

i must have filled in 50 surveys from City in the past few years, i cannot ever remember answering can i have shit overpriced food, and queues 200 yards long, the whole experience is just crap, people wouldnt do this shit for free, making paying customers suffer it is nothing short of a piss take

Can I stop being nervous about attending away games?
Searches but queues of reasonably short duration for visiting fans at most of them and almost zero queues for home fans.
There were no searches that I saw at Sunderland on Sunday.

Got there around 720 last night. Less than 20 folk queueing for the family stand.

It was the first time that they waved their wand up down etc etc. It bleeped at my coat pocket and I was asked what was in there. I told them it was my phone. Away you go.

Seemed pointless if they're not going to actually check what made their wand bleep.

I must just have an honest trusting face.
