Queues

There are not enough turnstiles to allow effective entry into level 3 south stand.
Therefore, queues build up very quickly - add that to ineffective crowd management of the queues / ineffective searching, the problem intensifies.
I get into every away ground, including trafford - considerable quicker than i get into city.

There is a problem - it needs sorting.

Seen a clip from the swamp last week and they appeared to randomly stop and frisk a few people as they are crossing that bridge there leading up to the shithole.
Do they have further checks at the gates?

I was talking to a United fan today, and apparently, they've also had a few issues with long queues and shambolic security measures.
At the St Etienne home game he was asked by a Steward: "Are you French?", to which he replied "No".
He was then allowed to go through the turnstile without being frisked.

Nice to have a sensible chat with you. As I said it's not the requirement to carry out security checks that is the problem - it's a worldwide issue - it's the process that needs to be addressed.

I've contacted the club for an update and just wondered if you had. I just don't understand why people think that moaning on a forum is helpful if you've not first discussed your grievances with the people who can help or explain the situation.

No need to get "arsey"
Taking the 'worldwide issue' into account, surely any terrorist with a brain would just bomb outside the stadium in the middle of the queue?

No idea - they've already done that & seem to be able to do the unexpected. However, security is an issue now at any public event & I suppose those in charge can't disclose their concerns because it's a case of trying to be one step ahead all the time. It's a sad situation but regrettably a real one & if it means some inconvenience so be it. Having said that the process needs inspecting by qualified people.

The problem is the queues are actually making it far easier for the terrorist. He/she doesn't care where they kill people, just that they do, and the risk of getting a device into a stadium, even without security, is far greater than just pitching up outside, and hitting a queue. To get inside they have to purchase a ticket for starters, which with 'watched' people might flag an issue, whereas you can jump on a bus in Ashton, get off outside wander across the road, and just stand near a queue.

If not a suicide type attack, it would also be very difficult to get say an automatic weapon into a stadium, whereas you can drive by in a car with the window down, and just shoot at random.

Its pretty much impossible to drive a lorry into a stadium, whereas a queue on the pavement.....

Queue's are at bigger risk than people inside a stadium in my opinion.

I'm far from convinced this is anything to do with security, more of a a side show, @jrb has posted his conversations with the police and stewards earlier in the thread, which suggest its not at the request of the police. Its causing huge inconvenience (especially at night games when people invariably will turn up later due to work), and its something that can be easily rectified by putting the correct resources (searching staff) in place outside, to make sure the queue's don't form in the first place.

The only answer City give is "turn up earlier", whilst they themselves, continue to entertain at City Square until 15 minutes before kick off, why ?

Spot on Cleavers.

The club have yet to explain why these searches are being implimented. I stand corrected, but didn't the MUEN ask them for a comment/explanation recently, and the club either didn't reply in full, or they just released a statement telling fans to arrive an hour early.(on a midweeek night, after work, etc)

In theory the club want us in our seats by *6.45*. For a lot of fans that would mean setting of at 6pm, and even then you'd have to fight your way through rush hour traffic.

We have been complaining about these queues for months. They are still just as long, and he searches are getting more intrusive.

My friend at work told me this morning that he was told to put his arms out and turn around before he was searched by a showsec steward.

Seriously, what the f*** is that about? He's going to a football match.

On Wednesday night as it was my turn to be searched I walked up to my assailant with my hands up in the traditional "don't shoot" pose. I think it got the point across and Mr Showsec's smile could not hide his obvious inner turmoil.

There's a shitload of bollards everywhere so no one's going to be driving a lorry into anyone queuing.

I wish posters would stop harping on about blowing up queues outside the stadium
To the terrorists it's far more important to get the bomb into the venue even if that means they kill far less people than they would outside
It's all about being live on telly

No obviously not, despite the fact that the queues at M1 regularly go out onto the main road, sometimes they do at P as well, but you comfort yourself that an attack on fans outside is unlikely.

The whole thing is bullshit, and it can easily be resolved by putting more people on the searches.

People won't be turning up earlier for night games, because for the majority it simply isn't possible.
