My phone isn't what would be deemed old, just a couple of years but I suppose in this must have society it's ancient. ;)I suspect that for whatever reason the NFC at the Etihad doesn't work with older phones. I had this problem although NFC worked perfectly well elsewhere. Had to use the QR code in the slot method, ditto my son has the same issue with his. I changed my phone recently for a new Samsung and now NFC entry works fine. Its a crap system that apparently requires 50-odd thousand people to each have a bang up to date phone.

Always put my phone in the slot with the barcode showing.When you get to the turnstile do you put your phone in the slot like a seasoncard? Everyone seems to do that but you are supposed to hold your phone a cm from the reader because it works by radio transmission. Using the phone as a bar code is not very reliable. You can have problems with screen brightness for example.
I have had no problems whatsoever.

It was so noticeable that suddenly the Everton fans started to leave in droves and then we started singing the 'you've had your day out now off you go home' song!! It started just before our third goal but escalated like someone had sounded the fire alarm after the goal!! :-)

I’ve always just held my phone in front of the scanner, as I would if using Apple Pay etc , I’ve never had to insert it into the readers. I have 2 season cards on mine and they both work first time. Although I always use the same turn style every matchSorry mate but that is utter tosh. It might be set up to read a radio transmission but unless I insert my phone in the slot I don't get in. Even then it is two or three tries. That said, I am not complaining, just correcting.
I wonder if some scanners / turn styles are different which is adding to the general confusion ?

The Everton away support has become very quiet in recent years but to be fair their team doesn't do much at our place to inspire them. I also think Rafa'a dire style of football is sucking the life out of them.I could see them but I couldn't hear them. Very strange for a large crowd.

Haven't had a single problem. My old fella had a bit of an issue with the NFC at the start of the season, but the barcode worked fine. All sorted since October for us.

The wife didn’t make me lunch before I set off so I was looking forward to the burger. Must be the worst food selection at any ground I’ve been to.
The food outlets outside are as good as you will get countrywide. Northern soul grilled cheese place is amazing. Heard the hip hop chip shop is the same and the burrito place. Don’t eat in the ground.
