Queues

For those who say it's an inconvenience but if it is guaranteeing our safety we shouldn't be complaining, yes that sounds fine in theory but that should mean that everyone is searched! However that is not the case if not everyone is searched or wanded & that was not happening today. In the queue I was in we reckoned it was only every 6th or 7th person who was checked. If, as someone said earlier the club has said everyone has to be searched, then they are failing in their duty. (The searchers not the club)

I don't think we can blame the security guards. I was outside waiting for someone and watching the queries getting bigger as everyone was being searched. I grumbled to stone supervisors who told me that they were aware that there was a growing problem but the powers that be were saying carry on.

That clearly changed later to checking 1 in 4/6. I have no problem with the increased security providing they either warn us to get there early or appoint more people to speed it up.

Not sure this is relevant to the queue thread, but yesterday, the queues were ridiculously long, and having purchased a small pizza from the concession outside the ground made our way to the queue about 1.15, the original intention was to save the pizza until inside the ground (as indeed i did last home game against Spurs). When i saw the size of the queue, despite joining the shortest i decided to tuck in to the pizza. Fortunately, despite being long, the queue was relatively fast moving, and by the time we reached the "security check" area, i literally had one small piece of pizza left. "Sorry, you can't take that in there" "its alright mate it will be gone before i go through" steward then pulled me aside, as if to say you cant go in with it. I simply stuffed last piece in my mouth, and went in. My mate had finished his quite a bit earlier than me, but still had the small empty pizza box, needless to say , the steward did not bother to check whether box was full or empty, although i must admit, i thought there was no ban on bringing in food purchased outside, and had done so many times without challenge

Talk about heavy handed, jobsworth and a total waste of time

Seems a bit hit and miss to me. My teenage daughter wasn't checked as steward asked if she was under18, (she is 17) and waved her through without wanding her, although I'm sure he'd have loved to have checked her out!

I'm amazed you haven't been asked for photos yet.

Even searching 1 in 10 still has a deterrent effect as you wouldn't know if you would be the one selected, it would lessen the queues outside & those selected could then be searched properly.
It would then also be possible to have a female searcher covering two or more turnstiles to allay accusations of discrimination (or potential terrorists getting a female to smuggle in their device - food)

There is one major reason for doing this imho, and its got nothing to do with security, I think its to get people to turn up earlier. Why ? Because if you arrive earlier, they think you are more likely to buy some of the over priced food/drink inside the stadium. Its that simple.

If anyone wanted to blow themselves up, the best place to maximise casualties, would be in/near one of the stupidly long queues caused by the so called security, outside.

I said this to the idiot in front of me who felt it reasonable to be queuing up and being searched to protect our security.
I asked from whom were we be protected? To which he replied "Muslims", you mean like our owners was my response!

If you're going to do it, do it properly, if not you are wasting everyone's time. The cynic in me says its nothing to do with security and more about stopping people from taking drinks and food in etc.

Yesterday they could have done a 'Nice style' lorry attack on several queues that were outside the new 'fortress' that they have put in along Ashton New Road.

If it was about safety and security, it would be done properly, with enough trained staff to ensure it was done quickly.

Its not about that, its about inconveniencing people, to get them to turn up earlier.

No, because outside the stadium isn't being shown live on telly
Inside or outside it wouldn't make any difference to a terrorist out to kill himself and others, the whole reason of any attack is in its name "terrorism". A game being live on TV or not, it would be reported world wide live immediately. They go for the easiest target, and yesterday it would have been the queues. At the back of the south stand at 13:25 there were three queues mingling together, one bomb in the middle of that would have taken out hundreds of people, and the 'security' would have been the biggest reason.

Getting the people into the stadium efficiently should be the main aim, and that requires trained staff who work quickly, not untrained stewards (no offence to any of them), who don't even react when the wand indicates something metallic.

Poor Security Management.

I work in this industry and notice a lot how appalling the operations are when I'm walking past all the queues towards my entrance (K)

It is harder to manage such a volume of people and conduct searching but one big thing needs introducing and fuck Political Correctness.

Selective Searching -

On the big queues, I'd have one male, one female floating around the queue and targeting the obvious people with another guy patrolling with them with a sniffer dog that can pick up explosives.

Bin Laden there with his rucksack, he's getting searched.

Little old Mavis who's been going to watch City since Hyde Road days does not need to be fucking searched and hasn't been recruited by ISIL

I haven't been searched once ever since going to watch City, yet analysing myself such as age/dress sense and so on I'd say I could possibly be a drug user and may be taking cocaine into the stadium (so I should be searched)

As its pissing me off now going into the toilets to see the kids all on the sniff. Its getting in there somehow.

These jobsworths won't search the gang of young lads all coked up but will search Little Old Mavis and whinge about her Flask.

So yea, people come In and let it free flow, with selective searching operating around the Entrances.

Also, police presence at the Entrances of The Etihad Campus and they would be looking for Intel such as Bin Laden and his ruck sack.

If some fucker wanted to cause damage they'd let their explosives off outside the stadium as there are so much more people (caused by the fucking queues)
Yes it isn't live on TV but it would still have an affect.

Pisspoor management and from my perspective of working In crowd control and so on I can justify my opinion.

My somewhat grim thought precisely.

You encounter similar situations during peak times at train stations, especially at those with automatic ticket gates, which are far from effective at processing large queues of people and which create huge bottlenecks which could easily be exploited by a fragmentation device or similar. To assemble so many people in such a disorganised manner is irresponsible and asking for trouble, especially if the situation is allowed to continue every other week.

As an example, every morning of the working week there are thousands of commuters stood around on platforms at tube stations. It's an enclosed space that would give a maximum effect to an explosive device and also bring the city of London to a standstill. This would have far more impact than blowing up football supporters outside a stadium

Blowing football supporters up inside a stadium whilst the game was being broadcast live across the world to an audience of millions would demonstrate the terrorist's power and threat
