Quitting tobacco

Bump.

4 days now without a cig. In 40 years of smoking I've managed 2 seperate 4 month stints and a few weeks fag free. Last time I gave up for 4 months I was going some days not even thinking of cigarettes. I remember getting in convo with some know all nurse who had never smoked preaching to me in the doctors surgery. When I got home I thought about the convo we'd had and she wound me up. I then started thinking of cigarettes and thought fuck it, I'll go and buy a packet of tobacco and I did. Rolled a cig and consciously knew what a fuckin' idiot I was by instantly undoing all the hard work I had achieved.

Smoking a 50gm Golden Virginia pack per week mostly at duty free prices is quite affordable but it's my health I can't put a price on. A mate of mine says he spends 60-£70 a week on packet cigs. I'd have tried giving up years ago spending that much.

I was given a 7 patch packet of Nicorette but they are 25mgs strength and I've cut them in half. Not easy but I'm determined that this time I will break free from the shackles of nicotine addiction.
Probably have to stay off the drink in the presence of smokers too for a bit mate as that's the easiest time to lapse - 3 pints in and the smoke smells lovely, particularly if you are used to having a drink in one hand and a cig in the other on a night out. Good idea with the patches - cut them into 3rds, and then 1/4's after that before stopping them. No point buying the weaker ones as they cost the same.

Cheers Bob. It's a nasty habbit that is so addictive. When I do manage to quit I know I'll hate the smell of cigs. I just wish I'd never started smoking. All the money wasted. I could say the same about wasting money on alcohol drugs and gambling though. I've even become almost tea total lately. And as for gambling and drugs I gave them up years ago, apart from a very occasional spliff now and then. I can't see myself going back to a splff again though as it involves smoking tobacco, don't want to take that chance.

Giz a bag of Kaylie Bob you owd git, n' a tuppenny spanish whilst yer at it: )
Spanish and the sweets of the gods. We used to buy the hard pellets n mix it with water to make a liquerice drink called spo. Ben Shaw's dandelion and burpdock was beyond the realms of ordinary families back then and as no one was doin vouchers we had to put up or shut up. Either bottled Spo or Corporation pop but would sooner have gone thirsty without a fag.

Cigarettes and alcohol go hand in hand but last time I quit my mate was offering me a cig which I refused..He lit a cig and blew the smoke in my face thinking I'd crack but I was ok. I genuinely beat the addiction and I knew it. I was feeling the benefits of breathing easier and sleeping better and could taste food better than I can remember. Then I foolishly started again knowing full well I'd be a smoker.

I have given stopping smoking some careful consideration before stopping. I had been averaging a 50gm pack a week but these last couple of months I think I got over5 weeks from a packet. The last I made sure I was aware of every cig I rolled gradually smoking less each day till I was on the dust. Last one was Tuesday lunchtime and I knew I couldn't use any more shit excuses like blaming covid or stress. I felt the time was right and am mindful of not buying sweets cakes and biscuits as treats. I definitely won't be transfering nicotine addiction to vaping either. Having previously tried it I couldn't stop coughing, but I don't want to vape anyway.

The half patches are definitely helping to ease my nerves, the rest is sheer will power with a bit of chewing gum if I need it.

It will only get easier I think. First couple of weeks being the hardest. But I can't go in a pub at the moment and succumb to anyone offering me a cig so that's good: )

Never heard of spo. You mentioning Kaylie evoked childhood memories though. I had a tin of Ben Shaw's D&B on Wednesday to wash down fish and chips. Very rare I drink pop nowadays but fish and chips with a glass of water doesn't cut the grease Bob.

Into my 11th week of no smoking and vaping and apart from seeing this thread and posting havent thought about it once today. If I can take anything from 2020 its I've knocked this god awful habit on the head. If I can do it, anybody can. First 3 weeks are the hardest in my opinion. Just dont smoke. No matter how hard it is. Dont smoke. 5 minutes at a time.

Well done pal.

Smoker for some half a century, when they cremate me I am going to smell like a finely rolled Havana.

Havent read all the posts here as I have never smoked. My ex smoke for nearly 30 years and tried everything to stop.
The thing that did it for her was a book my Alan Carr
She did everything the book said and hasnt smoked since about 10 yrs.

Look up the book on ebay or Amazon
