Quitting work on the spot

First question in the interview?

I don’t see many companies advertising their sick pay policy.

I was actually on sick pay relatively recently for treatment and in that case they made an “exception to the policy” to continue to pay me fully while that was sorted.

That’s another problematic thing in my view - whether you get the exception or not clearly depends on how much they like /value you. Not sure that’s even legal tbh… didn’t question it at the time because I ultimately benefited from it.

I don’t think I’ve ever looked at the sick pay at any company I’ve worked at but maybe I’ve just been lucky. I was once off work for 3 months after a major operation but I just got paid as normal then went back to work. Probably different now.

Update for those interested.

Stuck my notice in today. Not a peep from the CEO since I sent it first thing this morning. Couldn’t do it in person because CEO is travelling. Fine. The email was very professional in tone but I deliberately did not offer any specific reasons - because I knew they would follow up to ask me and I want to be careful what I put on record.

As predicted got a call this afternoon. Not from him but from his lacky. Very polite conversation, he asked me “Sorry to hear this. Why? Do you have a new role?”.

I did say I don’t have another role because I don’t want them getting litigious thinking I’m going to a competitor which a colleague recently did - they have a lot of resources to make life difficult. I gave him one of the major and uncontroversial reasons for leaving but told him “there are more reasons that I’m happy to pick up in the new year through the proper process” (He was definitely recording it to forward on, he does this often)

One thing I didn’t mention in my OP - I have already booked out this week and the office is closed after Christmas for some reason. So I can effectively do nothing until Jan. That gives me time to think and plan next steps.

I’ve decided I am not taking a sick note, partly out of principle but also because our sick pay allowance is significantly worse than just logging on and doing the minimum for 3 months. Let them put me on gardening leave if they have to.
Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

Good luck. I am Sure you have acted wisely.

For what's worth after discussion with colleague I will defend allegation of Serious Misconduct against for several reasons. Colleagues thinks I have been treated disgracefully and she doesn't hold back to let me know when she thinks I am wrong. May just call it a day regardless of outcome of investigation

Good luck mate. Personally my advice would have been to not quit without anything to go to, but to stop giving fuck about things you can’t change - blokes a dickhead, accept it and live with it for now.

Next year is going to be hard, very hard, consultancy firms likely to get hit hard. We’ve off-boarded a bunch of consulting teams from my place preparing for a challenging year.
