excellent season, excellent player, well done on what is probably one of the hardest things to do. Come from abroad and win player of the year in your first year playing as central defender.

who spotted this guy for us ? Other defenders where on our list before him, somebody has been very clever here, excellent work who ever did

Highly regarded.

Longer than that.....Steve Nicol was an out and out midfielder, no more a defender than Mahrez ;) whoever wrote that is clueless!!

I read somewhere the other day that Ruben was actually Pep's first choice but Tkixi went elsewhere first.

TBF if you look back at the timing he probably was first choice but only became available when Benfica (very unexpectedly) lost their chumps league qualifier....it was done very quickly after that result, weather it was to play him in that tie or sell if they lost.

I've seen similar as well...the issue was that his release clause was £90+ million and City wouldn't pay that. Then Benfica got knocked-out of the Champions League qualifier and needed £££ because no CL revenue. So City could negotiate down on the release clause and chucked Otamendi into the deal as well.

Well deserved, you can count the bad games on one finger and he is the reason the defence has become more solid, the resurgence of Stones also didn't harm.
