Rúben Dias | FWA Footballer of the Year, City's Player of the Season and Premier League Player of the Season

I read somewhere the other day that Ruben was actually Pep's first choice but Tkixi went elsewhere first.

excellent season, excellent player, well done on what is probably one of the hardest things to do. Come from abroad and win player of the year in your first year playing as central defender.

who spotted this guy for us ? Other defenders where on our list before him, somebody has been very clever here, excellent work who ever did
I think he went to the top of our list when Benfica failed to qualify for the Champions League.

We realised they would need the money after missing out on the CL income, so we pounced.

After the car crash of Mangala I was sceptical about buying a defender from the Portuguese league, what the fuck do I know ;)

To me, it looked like he was first choice in 2019 if we were able to ship Ota off. We didn't have any foreign spots left so we tried to pursue Maguire but that obviously went nowhere. Dias wasn't ready to leave Benfica, wasn't going to push for a move, and was going to sign a new contract (which he eventually did do), all while Nico was struggling to find a club. So nothing came of it, and then by all accounts his performance levels dipped last season, so he probably fell down the pecking order a bit. We were still keeping tabs but I don't think we actively pursued him until they failed to qualify for CL and he became available

more rawk bollocks;

Dias getting POTY will be the latest thing for them to whinge about, ironically. Whether it's plaudits or opposing fans arguing the toss, things like POTY usually drum up publicity. You can guarantee if Salah, Fernandes or Kane were awarded it then there would be article after article about their seasons, opposing fans arguing on socials about why someone else deserved it, etc. Nobody's arsed about a £68m defender slotting into a £200m+ defence and playing well. A forgettable award in a forgettable season.

and, just to prove how knowledgeable they are....

That'll be a quiz question in a few years time. Who won the Writer's player of the year in the 2020-21 season? I doubt anyone will remember without the aid of Wikipedia.

I'll be honest, I couldn't pick Ruben Dias out of a line up if he was the only one stood in front of a giant sign with a couple of large arrows pointing to him saying "This is Ruben Dias".

They’re not at all bitter and they obviously don’t care about us, either.
