Racist Chanting

If this is true then it is a disgrace. I dont see it worse than Munich chants though. Peope lost lives. Same for the Hillsborough chants.

BUT , people need to remember, it is a very small minority of so called fans that are doing it.

All clubs have the same minority. No excuse, but in no way should it tar all fans.

You are going to get some kind of offensinve chants at every game, its down to the majority of us not to join in.

Couldn't hear anything on the box but if true then that's sad as fuck. I remember last season playing Villa & this prick in 109 shouting "you black bastard!!!" to their players. So I'm staring at our fellow blue & shout to him "what the fuck did you just say?" response - head down looking at his shoes embarrassed. Or it could be the fact that I'm mixed race, quite stocky & was ready to either fuck him up or have a word with the stewards. In the end i left it & he hasn't said anything since but booze & emotions running high tend to make people act like fucking idiot! Gutted bout all this as i love my fellow blues & see us above all that bollocks.

I'm getting sick of this bashing of our own fans now! Yeah whoever sang these songs are arseholes, and i'm not defending us - but nobody has yet to mention the fact that about 19/20 mins into the game the Blackburn fans were very clearly heard (on TV) to sing "You Black B@stard" to YaYa... about the only time you heard them sing anything!
Now watching on TV it stood out to me above anything else, yet it seems as usual that the it's not in the medias interest to highlight it as it's not having a pop at us!

Like I said, its gonna happen everywhere. We just need to ignore and not join in. Nothing else we can do about it. If the press make a deal out of our chants then they should go listen to the "96 not enough" shite that gets spewed out at Liverpool games. Its part and parcel I'm afraid

Row 26 last night around the middle of the net. Didn't hear anything like that so can't of been as loud as being claimed.

Disgusted with some blues last night. Whilst the shit storm rages about the Munich song even worse for me last night was the large number of blues singing "just a town full of P*k*s" before, during and after the match. Not talking one of two people here, but loads of blues singing along to some clown starting it and laughing about it.

So is this what we are about as fans, where a huge section go along with it and sing this with one clown starting it off? You lot there singing it know who you are, and know where you where sat.

On or above Row 26, Darwen End. Pricks

If this happened, it is 100 times worse than the Munich chants. Think we might get 50 pages for this?
65 pages last count, but to be fair racism isn't the flavour of the month. I find this kind of chant much more disturbing than any munich chant. No place in modern society at all!

I was in row 8 in the 120s and could hear it, really small time. As for hearing it if you are in a lowered numbered seat it doesn't matter if your on or close to the same row it's the other side of the stand and could well miss it.

At the stadium it sounded more like "you FAT bastard".

Didn't hear the "Paki" song last night but I would definitely have said something if they'd been in earshot, no excuse whatever for racist shit.

I was in row 25, didn't hear that. Like no one else has so I think your making this stuff up.

The only thing I heard was 'Just a small town in Burnley'.

Not a racist ,but why is Paki more offensive than Jock,Paddy,Taffy,Pommy, Yank,Manc, Brummy.
Would it have been acceptable to sing A town full of Pakistanis.

Just asking, don't shout
It's a legacy from a time when 'On The Buses', 'Love Thy Neighbour' and 'Mind Your Language' were seen as good old fun, and good comedy. Basically a word from a bygone era, or to paraphrase David Brent, before racism was a bad thing! In the 80s it was a word used to abuse anyone who was from Pakistan or India (probably a few Indians who would have kicked off if you called them that, and not for the same reason as someone from Pakistan would). Anyone from my generation (in their 40s) would know that the word 'paki' was used in a derogatory sense - absolutely a racist word, and I would suggest that any City fans using it last night meant it in a racist way (regardless of how many Asian friends they have....)

Agreed, the term "Paki" is routinely used by racists for Indians. Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis etc because in their eyes the distinction between the nationalities is meaningless, they're all just "Paki bastards".

Not defending anything here, i am a firm believer in keeping racism off the terraces, but:

Wasnt there a court case recently in Australia (where the Pakistani cricket team is nicknamed the "Pakis"), that argued that "Paki" is a racist term.

The case was decided such that "Paki" is not racist as it is a shortening of the name "Pakistan", just as in "Brit" for British and "Aussie" for Australian.

Certain asians use it themselves now, like a badge of honour, like the n word for black people. Taking it back is the term they use, i call it fucking stupidity after the problems they went through to get equal rights

But when you are calling anyone with brown skin a paki you are racist

tone is everything i would say

I'm in my 40s and fully understand what Paki meant but as someone else pointed out pakistanis call themselves Pakis and not in a derogatory way.To be honest it's people like the one who started this thread that make it worse by highlighting it as racist
Maybe next year "A town full of Asians" would suit better. As in "A town full of smackheads" to us.

Not really racist just banter but some can't see that

Surely "youre just a town full of Asians" would be just as offensive.

Very true. I've been called a Scotch Egg Wanker before, which is alot worse than being called a Paki, unless youre Indian.
