I think he got a ban for stamping on Robin van Persie, he was charged for the celebration but the FA took into account the abuse so he got a further suspended ban and fine. Obviously I don’t condone the stamp (which was missed by the ref) but the celebration was hilarious.Yes he got full respect for me for that celebration. It was utterly wonderful and I love watching it everytime it pops up. He should have got a medal for that not a ban.
It's funny I was actually having a discussion on goal celebrations today. I said I hated that horrible scrote Rooney but I had no problems with him giving it to us when he scored against us (Which unfortunately he did a lot) because we gave him dogs abuse ourselves.

Yeah, football fans are allowed to be angry and hypocritical. That's part of it. But he definitely overstepped the mark into mild racism when he started talking about deserts and saying "get out of our league." The fact that he deleted a link to the podcast is very revealing. It's a shame, because I like him too, and he generally has a reputation as one of comedy's nice guys.I am quite shocked by this. I used to find him quite funny and I like a bit of edgy humour and football banter but this smacks of racism. The worst bit is the “get out of our league”, which can be read as country, wow, he needs to apologise.
I was still surprised by that rant though. Given that he plys his trade with people who are ostensibly intelligent (Stephen Fry, Sandi Toksvig, etc), I hadn’t expected him to be no better than some thick, lager fuelled, Sun reader, spewing out such lazy, ignorant, spiteful bollocks. Either way, he is now going the way of “Tony”……I saw him in Edinburgh a few years ago, performing in The Odd Couple with Bill Bailey.
