I've had racist joke texts off mates and I've got mixed race kids. Some people are thick as pig shit especially when it comes to racism, they're small minded fools that are still living in the "love thy neighbour" seventies era.

I have asain mates and we make race jokes all the time. I don't think I've ever offended with them.

Hope so.

If we break it down though. My mate sends me a racist joke i read it get distracted and it stays on my phone. Later that day something happens and police come and have a look through my phone. Is it my fault a mate sent me a text?

No.
Place where I worked, a manager walked past a computer and saw an inappropriate picture joke on someones screen. IT dept was sent in and every email that person had received / forwarded was tracked down and then the emails of the person receiving them tracked down and so on....
Only those actually forwarding them were disciplined, not those who only received them. They also checked company phone records too.
In total 2 got sacked (one reinstated after appeal), one manager demoted and a couple of final warnings were dished out.
