very worrying precedent to set and as said before, completely disproportionate to sentences given (or not) to other racially motivated attacks. no way in hell should you be arrested for posting you're views online, even if they are disgusting, people can just block him. another erosion of the right to free speech

Totally agree, obviously what he did was wrong but to be jailed for it just isn't right.
There's a huge amount of racism on the internet from sites dedicated to hating black/white people to racist jokes websites, I don't think it's very fair to single this one guy out when so many do it.
If those comments were said about the average black person I don't think he would have got jailed, I think its just because it got so much media attention. Normally all they would do is close your twitter account and ban you from the site.

Suarez never got jailed! And that twat Terry certainly won't either!

I don't think it was just the comments about Muamba he abused people who pulled him up over them.He was pretty nasty to people who had'nt swore or threatened him and kept it up but prison does seem a step too far, surely a suspended sentence would have been the way to go?
Alcohol is trouble when you can't handle it.

There's no way that the police, the CPS or HMPS will be able to apply the same standards to every person on the internet who says something along the lines of "go suck a ****** dick you wog ****". This was just a high profile case because of the public response to Muamba, and probably because of the recent rise in awareness of "internet bullying". They had an opportunity to turn Liam Stacey into an example and they took it.

I would say it's a knee jerk reaction, but I'd expect that if he appeals then his prison sentence will definitely be overturned.

If he wrote that shit (Northern **** jumped out at me) he's a wanker of the highest order and no amount of apologies would be enough, but jailing him is still a step to far imo.

If someone writes shit like that and gets a violent response with the "inflame racial tension" excuse then the physical aggressors have to be in the wrong don't they?

There are so many double standards regarding race in this country idiots like this are going to be mainstream in 20 years.

Even outing the dumb bastard in the tabloids might upset some group who wants vengeance.......somewhere in this shit there was a young man who nearly died everyone should be focusing on all the positive messages he had instead of focusing on the few shit ones that everyone ignored anyway.

So in all that highly offensive racial bigotry what jumped out at you was "Northern ****". I think i may have just bitten there

He acted like a right twat, and his drunk excuse is very flimsy, but it doesn't sit comfortably with me that he was jailed for it. I know people will say "its inflaming racial tension" but by that reasoning, you'll have to shut down the EDL facebook page, and arrest the guy who runs it. Also, what about the tabloid press publishing nonsense stories about Muslims, immigrants taking our jobs, Iran planning to use nukes, etc. Thats doing much more to inflame racial tension, then some idiot posting tweets only a small handful of the population will see. It just stinks of hypocrisy.

Stan Collymore used his influence to highlight to the Police what was said (and what was said was a disgrace I'm not defending the racist tweeter) but did Stan Collymore serve any time for beating 10 bells of shit out of Ulrika Johnsson?

Did Ulrika Jonsson press charges against Stan? Or John Leslie?

No she didn't, but who is Collymore to start highlighting thugs when he is one himself? Hypocrisy of the highest order.

I never mentioned John Leslie, it's irrelevant to the point I'm making.

So that's a pissed up idiotic racist ass hole that's gone to prison. A wanker that arranged a riot that didn't happen and he never turned up and no one else turned up that's gone to prison. Also a couple more similar cases have happened were idiots have gone to prison for writing stuff on the internet.

Worryingly nine people that commented in this thread thinks this is acceptable. Some of them even advocate serious acts of violence should be inflicted on Liam Stacey from rape to shooting him in the face. I'm just having a hard time getting to grip with that kind of logic. Name calling is bad but wanting acts of violence to be committed upon someone is OK ?

yeah but acting like a **** online should not warrant a jail sentence. people can block him and twitter can delete his account. much worse websites and people online that don't get so much as a caution

So Prison for a tweet but this guy not sent to Prison:

Crash driver raced off to collect his benefits
But reckless Balram Singh is spared jail

Hit and run ... Balram Singh
Caters By JOHN COLES Published: Today at 12:38 A DRIVER mowed down a young woman on a pedestrian crossing and dashed off — because he was late to collect his benefits.
228 comments Balram Singh, 21, had no licence or insurance when he was rushing to pick up his Jobseeker's Allowance.

He ignored a red light and ploughed into Kate Allan, 23, who crashed into his windscreen before landing in the road.

Singh then raced off in Brentry, Bristol — missing her head by a fraction.

In a victim impact statement, Miss Allan told a court: "If I had not moved my head out of the way of the car he would have driven over me."

She escaped serious injury but was left with pain to her right leg, neck, ribs and down the left side of her body.

Bristol Crown Court also heard she was still suffering pain two months after the crash last December.

When cops tracked down Singh — who ended up being too late to collect his payment — he told them he did not stop because he wanted "to come home and look on the internet to see what would happen to me".

Singh, who had driven a relative's VW Polo without permission, admitted aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop and driving without a licence and insurance.

He was given an eight-month suspended sentence, a two-year driving ban and a four-month curfew. He was also told to do 300 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,500 in compensation.

Judge Neil Ford QC, Recorder of Bristol, gave him credit for his lack of previous convictions, early guilty pleas and "genuine remorse".

But after the hearing Singh moaned his sentence was unfair.

He said: "I was very lucky not to get sent to prison but I think the two-year ban was a little harsh because it's really going to hurt my hunt for a job.

"I'm not a bad driver — I just hadn't passed my test.

"I feel bad for what happened, and if something like that happened again, I now know what to do.

"I don't think it's fair that the judge ordered me to pay £1,500 out of my jobseekers. The ban and community order were enough of a punishment."

I don't think Collymore is a thug per se. He's highlighting racist abuse which is something both he and his Mother experienced whilst he was growing up.

Ulrika Jonsson has history with numerous blokes. I'm suspicious of anything she says. Although I fully admit I'd crawl over broken glass to have a wank on her shadow.

Everthing thats wrong with the justice system right there. Driven by shit journos in the media, whose objective is to make money not provide an impartial fair justice system. Afterall if the system was fair and impartial their wouldnt be controversial sentances to sell papers.

This guy is obviously guilty as help but jail is way out of proportion when compared to instances like this and muslims students beating the shit out of a white women and escaping jail.

Could not agree more. Yeah, the comments were ignorant, distasteful and well out of order. But this is far less serious than doing physical harm to another person. The law is an ass, and the judges about as consistent and logical as football referees.
