Radio 2 - who's it aimed at?

BBCR6
BBCR3
BBCR2 (only Jazz show and Blues show)
LBC
FIP (Paris station, worth a go)
Spotify
YouTube
Soundcloud

BBCR1 is a bit grating to me, and BBCR2 seems devoid of character, aside from the two shows i listed above. R4 is annoying, but some of the serial non-news progs are good

The last time I listened to the radio was when I used to work in a factory, other than hearing a few disjointed offerings I am oblivious to most if not all of the new stuff.

The radio was something that kept you company in the past, obviously not so much now. The question of DJ's stations and who listens to them have always been talked about here is an example from a group talking about Fleetwood Mac, the Reynolds Girls and I'd Rather Jack.

AM, FM, all that jazz
We'd rather sing along with Yazz
What happened to the radio?
They never play the songs we know
Golden oldies, Rolling Stones
We don't want them back
I'd rather jack, than Fleetwood Mac
No heavy metal, rock'n'roll
Music from the past
I'd rather jack, than Fleetwood Mac
I'd rather jack

Can't they see that every generation
Has music for its own identity?
But why the DJ on the radio station
Is always more than twice the age of me?

Who needs Pink Floyd, Dire Straits?
That's not our music, it's out of date
Demographic stereo

I listen to 6Music most of the time, but put Radio 2 on for Popmaster each morning, and sometimes listen to OJ Borg at night if I can't get to sleep.
I sometimes get exposed to other channels when I'm swimming. Hough End, Moss Side & East Manchester tend to play Kiss or Kisstory in the changing rooms & it's bloody awful. I guess at least it encourages you to get dressed quickly & get out of there!

6 Music mostly for me...but i also enjoy the Absolute Radio stations....would regularly flick between their 90s, 80s and classic rock stations

Who's it aimed at?
A 30something's hen party.
That's the demographic they're aiming for, now.

Something came through on social media the other day, taken from the Daily Fail. Apparently, the DREADFUL Scott Mills has virtually ditched anything from pre 2000, since he took over from Steve Shite. There goes your evidence. It's going the same throughout the day, too. Their (R2) playlist consists of 30 new songs, repeated for 20 hours a day, with a few "oldies" thrown in, for good measure. The BBC must have access to one of the world's largest record libraries, yet whenever certain artists release a song, you're guaranteed to hear them on each show from 0400 to 2200, Monday to Friday. They need to take a leaf from commercial radio stations who give you a "no repeat work day".

As I said on the Ken Bruce thread, he's left most likely, because he's pissed off playing 20odd year old bedwetting lads, "crying that their birds have chucked them", or, nasally/whiny 20odd year old girls who are moody that their new fella is cheating on her with his ex. Listen to that new "song" by Mimi Webb for evidence (red flag).

They've now morphed into the equally dreadful Heart.

R2 has disappeared so far down the plughole in the last decade, it's already reached the sewage farm. When Ken goes, I go.
If I'm working on a Saturday morning, I'll catch half an hour of Tony Blackburn, after that, that's my lot.

Never have Radio 2 on, the car is usually on Gold.

If I'm driving anywhere over 15 mins or so I'll bluetooth my music on my phone over and listen to something I want without someone babbling shite between stuff I don't always want to hear.

Only other time the radio is on is for the odd commentary of non-City games or if we've battered someone and I'll have R5/talkragshite on for the 90 odd min drive home from the match, when I think why did I do that with the state of the presenters/gammons ringing in!!!!

My radio is either Greatest Hits, Smooth or Gold. None of this R2, Scott Mills, Jeremy Vine or Zoe Ball rubbish for a while now. Plus I can’t be doing with the tunes they play, not so much Vine, can’t be doing with his sanctimonious tones. The only time R2 is heard is when Ken Bruce Popmaster is on or it’s Sounds of the Sixties and that’s when I’m off work.

I actually think Radio 2 is slowly improving.

Chris Evans gone. A lot of the old timers who had been on there too long like Simon Mayo, Steve Wright, Ken Bruce etc have now gone. Vanessa Feltz gone as well. So a good chance to get some better hosts in.

A shame that Craig Charles has lost his Radio 2 slot though.

Trevor Nelson is brilliant at 10pm and Scott Mills for a long time one of the best Radio 1 presenters is now there to liven up the day show as well.

Desert Island Discs, radio's greatest gift to the world, amazing programme. The back catalogue on BBC Sounds is the perfect listen.

Used to have R2 on as it was the only station we could get clearly. I tune into Real XS when I get on the M56.
However for the past 2 years we've ditched R2 and have BBC Wales on. Apart from the brilliant Wynne Evans ( Go Compare ) the rest are pretty normal. They have a play list of about 35 with Bonnie fucking Tyler, The Manic Street Preachers, Tom bleedin Jones and Shakin bastard Stevens on at least twice a day plus the most miserable call ins with Jason ( I cant believe it's not Jeremy Vine ) Mohammed in the morning.

Been doing some work at my mother's this morning and so far I've listened to 3 hours of verbal diarrhea from Vernon Kaye!
