[Blue and still suffering]

Maybe it was Granada I was listening to and time has played tricks on my memory. Either way, it was a crass mistake to make.

I was only ten at the time but do remember asking why they had read out the wrong score. My parents said that it was probably just a mistake.

Brain Clarke was my neighbour in Droylsden, he drove a mini with full Piccadilly 261 livery all over it.

I always remember John Arlott on cricket. I could have listened to his voice all day.

But his voice, his pitch - it was just perfect.

Peter Jones was fantastic.
Sadly, I remember his 'Hillsborough' report all too well.

But I also remember his velvet tones in his match summary.
"in the next breath Lake hit a bar..." was one that I can vividly recall.
I wanted to be a commentator after listening to him, Mike Ingham with great insight from Jimmy Armfield.

None of this hysterical crap that we have now.

The only ones today who are decent are Ian Dennis and John Murray who broke 'the big news is THAT for City is Zabaleta starts!!!!!!!!!!' ahead of beating utd.

Juventus away 1977ish Fogged off the day before. Listened to the whole match on radio Manchester at around 2.30 pm whilst at a school fucking play. I think it was a 2 all draw. The radio was the most reliable peice of news in the day.

Getting back to the car after a home game had finished at 4.40 on a Saturday afternoon and hearing the words it’s ‘ sports report’ and the tune. Still iconic hearing the tune on a Saturday even though times have changed.

Then the results read out where you predicted the away team by the sound of the voice.

It always used to be Bill Bothwell reporting on our games - still have a recording of him somewhere saying “Crossan even failed with a penalty kick because he was too genteel” in that broken glass Scottish accent
