fb as I understand there's almost zero scope for revenue increase for them?

You have to take your hat to the Glazers for the job they have done commercially and every time I think they have exhausted all revenue streams the pull another out of the hat, like DHL.

But they need success more than any other brand in world football.

I think having neighbours like us will also hold an unfavourable mirror up against them when they lose some of that lustre, and sponsors want lustre.

DHL, backing the second best team in Manchester?

AON, proud partners of the PL champions from five years ago?

Thats bollix, I'm afraid. Rags are the 5th largest brand in the world. Sponsors are falling over themselves to get a piece of the action. Latching onto the rags puts your product in the global shopwindow. We will never ever be a threat to their revenue streams in Asia, USA, Scandinavia etc...We simply don't have the fanbase or interest out there. Bigger and more successful teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea tried it and failed. Barca are now flogging Qatar on their shirts, not multi-national american corporations like AON or DHL. When the rags bring out a new shirt, it is launched at Nike headquarters, even Brazil don't get that sort of marketing. I can't see this suddenly coming to a grinding halt, coz they had a bad season. Even when Chelsea starting winning the league and fa cups, the rags continued to grow commercially. They are like coca cola and the Glazers will never give that up.

I agree in part but....
"NEVER EVER be a threat to there revenue"? Never ever is long time!

It's presuming they will always finish top 4... what happens when BaconChops goes they drop midtable they can't invest in the team they stop winning trophies for a long period? I can remember before BaconChops and to be Honest they were average club winning a trophie every maybe 3 or 4 years...

I reckon that Real and Barcelona are bigger in terms of fan base than the rags or just as big at least. Barca shirt sponsorship is the biggest ever in the history of football. Oh and Brazil don't need to market themselves. Do you think this amazing fan base that follows them were around before 1992, these sort of fans grab on to whatever is the most successful at the time

When sky started flogging the premier league around the world, people made their choices then. Some have been faux rags for nearly 2 decades now. Chelsea found this out when they toured Asia and the US to mostly empty stadiums.

In 2000, I was walking down a high street in Bangkok. And to my astonishment discovered a Rag superstore?? It was as big as the Next store in Mcr (across from the printworks). And all the models on the walls were rag players wearing polo shirts and hoodies etc...It was packed out like a normal clothing retail shop would be, accept EVERYTHING had a rag badge sewn into it. Jumpers, boxer shorts, socks, t-shirts, caps, shoes.....you name it, they were flogging it. I walked out shaking my head at the stupidity of it all, when a monorail tram passed overhead and the whole side of the carriage was David Beckham drinking a can of pepsi. I went back to my hotel.

United had a big global fanbase long before 1992. It came about primarily as a result of Munich, but increased further when they won the European Cup in 1968. Their success in the past 20 years has seen it increase still further. If they were to go through a barren patch, I agree that a considerable amount of that support will drop off but they'll still be very popular. You only have to look at Liverpool and their relative lack of success compared to the 70's and 80's to see that they still retain plenty of global appeal.

What really amazes me is the fact that people assume all of the clobber these folks in the far east wear is kosher, from the superstore and fully priced.

Its not of course and the brand of United may well ne the biggest in football but the focus on the far east is a bit like the emperors new clothes as the revenue is far below what the exposure suggests.

City have targeted North America and the Middle East as they buy from legitimate sources at proper prices.

In the coming years you may well see the City brand in malls in Dallas and New York or on the high streets of Seattle and Vegas.

So United can have Bangkok and the rest of the knock capitals of the world we will settle on where the revenues are I think.

If I was berbaflop I'd wait till contract run down BaconChops been taking the piss with him top scorer last season and hardly played
If there ever was a rag i felt sorry for it's berba. He even scored 6 in 3 games when he plays. The only time he gets a look in is when fat shrek goes awol. The fact that he doesn't make the bench is a joke tbh.

Don't feel sorry for him, he had the choice between us and them on the final day of the transfer window on that crazy day the Sheikh took over.
At the time I thought he would've been a good fit, he was awesome for Spurs and I remember the game in the Carling Cup we had when they beat us with 10 men, we were awful but Berbatov produced one of the best performances I've ever witnessed, he was pure class that night and after that I was desperate for us to sign him. Anyway that was then, now I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.
Berbs was on fire at the start of last season. he probably won the rags the title with his performances in the start of the season. He was the leagues top scorer. shrek was out shagging prossies, holding the club to ransom and playing terribly yet bacanface still dropped berba for shrek.

I'm with fbloke here. Asia is The Capital of replicas and their financial power is very low. United relies on numbers there and on the money from TV rights, and TV rights money is based on success. North America and Middle East have much bigger financial power and there's no replica business in USA.

City won't reach their level of popularity soon as they have huge advantage but success and stars build fan base. There's already loads of new City fans.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are best example of that. I barely know anyone from my generation (35) or older who is Barca supporter as in the time we had started to follow football Real Madrid were kings (they still are though :-) ) but today, when Barcelona have the best team and win all the titles, with stars like Messi, most of the kids prefer Barcelona. And if RM didn't buy Ronaldo, Barcelona would have even bigger share as Ronaldo deal was fantastic for RM and brought them tons of fans they would lose otherwise due to lack of success on pure football field.

The Rags sell more nike shirts in North America than they do in Asia. The money they generate in Asia is mostly from TV rights from their matches. Rags V's Crawley town last season was broadcast all over Asia. Not because the whole continent suddenly had an interest in the fa cup, or Crawley town, but because advertisers know that they can flog their wares to the largest TV audience in one fell swoop. Ker-ching... rags get paid. Barcelona won the European cup last season, but the rags made more money just by reaching the final, coz they brought in the biggest TV audience.

And if you honestly think that we are gonna be generating masses of revenue from Dallas or Vegas shopping malls, when the shop on market street that I walk past twice a day is mostly empty, well you need your head testing.

What I strive for is to rival them on a football pitch, and we are doing that just now. Some people are just too greedy and slightly deluded if they are expecting the rags to fold like a pack of cards, coz you'll be waiting a long time for that. We are only just opening our eyes to a road that the rags travelled down 20 years ago. A path that we didn't need to take, but now with FFPR our hand has been forced.

If the rags stopped winning things, all those plastic "fans" in the far east will drop them so fast they'll hit the ground like a fucking anvil. They follow them so they can say that they are winners because they support the champions. The 6-1 caused a lot of damage. Early exit from the CL caused even more and if they lose the league title to us, that could be critcal for their merchandising.
I almost feel sorry for the rags who believe baconface when he slurs out remarks like "no value in the market" and "our squad's good enough". He's just spunked over 50mil on 3 very average players. Believe me, they are 1 or 2 poor seasons away from financial meltdown.

Overseas support doesn't generate much significant income, but sponsors will pay big monies to be associated with an international club

It's also fickle and follows success.

I like watching Barca because they play great football, but I'll also watch Real Madrid for the same reasons.
