Rags Writing City Reports For MEN

Of course I recognises that there are some awfully biased articles written in places, HP. They are just as worthy of criticism as anything else on this thread.

That doesn't change my view that, as a group (a group that I obviously include myself in), football fans are petty, paranoid and one eyed when it comes to the media.

I'm not making it up when I say that virtually every club has a large percentage of fans who are convinced that they get negative press compared to others.

I could extend that to talking about people's desire to feel persecuted in other areas of life, not just football, but I won't for now. It's an unpleasant and unhealthy characteristic wherever it occurs.

I don't know if I agree with Dave's comment about the trait being worse amongst City fans than amongst others. My view would probably be skewed by spending a lot more time ammongst City fans. It is definitely alive, well and kicking amongst us though. A quick look at this board tells you all you need to know about that.

We get the worst press though, All they do is complain about our money but when real madrid offer players £300,000-a-week deals they don't get no bad press whatsoever.

Enjoyed chris baileys reports and wish him all the best in his new job BUT surely MEN has got this wrong putting a RAG in charge of the city column.
I for one will boycott paper now and one more thing Stuart, being a lifelong red how can you take the job on for being man city reporter is beyond me, I would never and i mean never take any Job connected to man united for whatever amount of money!!!

Excellent post, JMA. As you can tell from this thread, the persecution complex of City fans is something I find cringeworthy too.

I actually think at City we're worse than many other fans, quite simply because United are next door. Lots of Blues see United's influence in everything and the minute someone says something they don't like, they become paranoid. So the Ref is a Rag, Mark Lawrenson's a Rag, "The Media" are Rags, MOTD are Rags, the car parking attendant who moved them on was a Rag etc etc etc.

It is an insecurity that has become part of the makeup of lots of City fans. You can see it coming through loud and clear on this thread.

DD when not embarking on tag team quests you actually talk alot of sense, think this is a true reflection of the city fan persona, however speaking from experience in relation to muen, the quite alarming lack of respect shown is truly disgusting...... we're the flava of the month when it suits but will always come second best in that rags rag.

Really? Has Ric said as such? Are we now free to talk about what REALLY happened in Leeds with Robinho?

I suspect not. You may want to check with the boss man before you start declaring Bluemoon as a libel law-free zone.

Heres Micahs number ask him ........... 0845 50 80 90

This is a classic case in point. We don't get "the worst" press.

What about Newcastle? They're getting mocked and hammered everywhere.
What about Chelsea? Diver, cheaters, skint etc
Liverpool? All the pres talk about is their debts and their manager's gripes
Man United? Ferguson gets accused of being a cheat and a whinger
Wigan? Got a new manager yeterday and it was hardly mentioned.
Wolves? Back in the prem, hardly any press
Doncaster Rovers? They're never on Match of the Day, are they?
And poor old Accy Stanley. They hate the fact they've never been featured in a broadsheet.

It goes on and on. All football fans have their own gripes.

There is no anti-City agenda. The agenda is to sell papers. If that takes bullshit or negativity then lots of them will happily do it, granted. But they'll do it about anyone and everyone.

In January a lot of columnists slated us for haveing too much money and mocked us for being overambitious.

That's already blown over in the main and, if we're Top 4 come Easter, we'll be everyone's darlings again.

So, then, why would the MEN alienate a big proportion of their readership by doing that?
And why do lots of United fans call it the "Evening Blues"?

There is no right answer here Dave, just opinion....... I could go into media portrayal, media amplification, sensationalism, each a contributer to how one perceives/views any given subject. I'm not disagreeing with you, i'm actually more inclined to believe your correct in your analysis... i'm simply talking about how moral panics spread, I guess i'm one of the people who gets caught up in the debate because if truth be told it hurts being a blue who has seen no success....... defend at all costs so to speak.

It's been interesting, to say the least, reading this thread - especially since the arrival of Mr Brennan himself. I don't blame Mr Brennan for wanting the job - who wouldn't? But I think the MEN are being naive in appointing him to report on City. The fact that the MEN covers City at all is the only reason for most Blues to buy the paper. Now why risk alienating potentially ALL of your MCFC readership by employing a Rag to do our reporting? Surely in these hard times there would be any number of Blues who'd crawl over broken glass to do the job?

If the MEN want to increase sales then partizan reporting in terms of its football coverage wouldn't go amiss and frankly it's impossible to be partizan about City when you actually want United to win matches over and above God's own club!

If you read what SB wrote, he says that the MEN are making people redundant, Him taking over the City part of the MEN was a job of opportunity, since he was already working there, he was deemed the best person to take the job without hiring.
