Paul Dickov is a legend to many but he is not on as high a level as Sterling as a player; nor are other players that we remember fondly.

Don't miss my point,Dickov did what he did and will always be remembered, this crop we have had over last few years and have now,are title winners and have medals to show for it,yes Sterling might end up with a few as well, but remembered as a first out of your mouth in 10 years, not a chance, you are kidding yourself to say otherwise

What's with the straw man argument? You have turned this into a popularity contest and which name "comes out of your mouth first in 10 years"? I really do not know what point you are trying to put across, can you try again?

Not making it into a popularity contest at all, just read the previous posts and don't join in once the horse has bolted

Think 10 years ahead or so from now,,then when we think back to the great era of what we have now, there will be a few names that will automatically roll off the tongue,of what a player he was etc, etc, but I'm sorry to disappoint some, but Raheem won't be one name that comes out of your mouth before quite a few others, when you are telling your kids or grandkids, just won't happen
In 10 years time people will probably still use one miss to prove that he's not good enough for us and will surely be benched/replaced soon.

At the end of the season we'll look back at what we've achieved and know that he was as much a contributor to that as anyone in the squad.

He's ok by me.

So many armchair experts piping up with absolute piffle about football ability, football brains, weak mentality and anything else they can possibly lob in his direction while he's in a dip in form.

His form will return though, so those going over the top will only end up looking foolish again when he does. All our players make mistakes and so do the top players at other clubs, if they paid half as much attention to them as they do Sterling they'd see that. We saw Kev miss from practically on the goal line against Chelsea last season, Kun, Jesus and Sané have had their clumsy moments missing sitters... as would any other young player we bring in to "replace him", dips in form come and go all the time across football. Sadly some people are only waiting for Sterling's mistakes and can't let go/wait to talk about them, it doesn't seem to matter what he does to make up for the odd mistake either to some.

It may seem like Sterling has been around for ages but he's still a young player and for me his problem is inconsistency caused by the mental side of the game(his confidence, his focus under pressure), maybe even mental fatigue plays a part which younger players are probably more susceptible to, which tends to improve naturally as they mature(less up and down with their emotions wasting their energy, more level headed/stable).

It still feels like some are trying to save face(people hate being wrong) the ones who told us he would never make it, especially in a Pep team... already proved you wrong is all I'll say, so let it go.
