Most strikers fail to score with over 70% of their shots.

but others are more likely to score chances as well.

For example if Sterling or Salah go through on goal with the same chance I would expect Salah to score many more times than Sterling.

Yet Sterling has a higher conversion rate.

And yet Salah has a worse conversion ratio than Sterling.

Conversion ratio from one on ones? Or just in general? I presume Kane has a worse conversion rate than Sterling too, just from the sheer amount of shots he takes.

Kane's ratio is quite a bit worse than Sterling and yes he does take a lot of shots and miss them. He missed from the spot yesterday, appallingly.

The ratio is for all shots.

Sterling must be the least appreciated high profile player around. He is deceptively productive...but coz he is a slight bloke, doesn't have a powerful shot on him and runs funny and all, people mock him. Against Burnley, Aguero crowded him out of a clear goal scoring chance to the left and refused to pass him the ball to the right. Aguero killed off every counter attack.

Sterling will soar when Aguero is replaced with a striker who is a better team player.

I guess it depends on the definition of conversion rate. What I am trying to get across Sterling will miss more easy chances than these other guys. I think no-one here would say hes a better finisher than Kane or Salah for example. Its a level he needs to get to if he wants to stay at the top.

Lukaku was a great finisher for Everton last season, think he scored 24? But break that down and you will see he was scoring loads when Everton where already winning when there was no pressure on him, and mostly against weak teams.

Sterling has scored vital goals under intense pressure in dying moments of games with 10 or 11 men in the penalty box. That to me points to how strong mentally he is, otherwise he might have already gone the way of Renato Sanches given the amount of grief he gets.

But I agree with you he needs to keep improving to reach the very top and merit a place in first XI in a Pep team. Let's wait till end of season to get a full picture of his progress.

The definition of conversion rate is clear.

How many easy chances Sterling will miss is not clear. No one disputes that he has room for improvement but his overall record this season is very good and if he keeps converting at the current rate - regardless of how you want to describe upcoming chances - he will have made a significant goal scoring contribution to the team.
