After reading about this for a brief while, this is just a colossus fuck up on Southgate and the FA's part. They could have let the story play out and have a talk with both and settle it, sending Sterling home blows this up for no reason.

Sterling hasn't been sent home.

I think that's a bit out of order that making it public. You can just quietly say to the player you're not starting without issuing a public statement.

The whole thing is Southgate trying to look like he's got authority, of course they made it public.

Apparently the England Squad and the whole Staff re angry at Sterling for grabbing Gomez Neck. Too many Members wanted Sterling to be gone this week
