From the players linked. Pogba, De Bruyne will improve the team (don't know about Fabinhi). I think a change of formation will improve the team. I think a more committed Yaya will improve the team.
Pogba will be even harder to get than Sterling. I hope we get him but we can't rely on him coming. De Bruyne would improve us and I hope we sign him. That said though, who are the second targets? If we don't get the big 3 are we going to end up getting more Sinclair's and Fernando's? We need 3 first team players, swaud players won't cut the mustard this summer. That's why I think we need to sign Sterling.

As entertaining as it was to see United pay £265,000 a week for someone to run out for their stiffs, not sure it was quite the same thing!

This is the football transfer equivalent of the Mad Man in Game Theory. Try and make the opposition believe you're mentally unstable and happy to fuck yourself over if it means winning.

The only problem they've got is that if Sterling plays less than 30% of games he's legally allowed to break his contract. I remember it coming up when Tevez went on the PGA Tour.

Barca and Madrid never seem to haggle so desperately when they want a player. They pay the fee and get the man.

Barca and Madrid put spend months putting on a show before they make their move. Perhaps you don't notice that.

Stop flapping. A deal hasn't been made, and we dont know what price we'll pay if and when the deal is done (as I expect). Sterling isn't our only target this summer, we will have players that will improve the first XI whether he arrives or not.

We'll pay £50m or we won't get him. A load of Yank hedge fund vultures won't be fussing about Txiki Begiristain 'not blinking first'.

I think we've handled this transfer pretty badly to be honest, especially when we will surely end up paying the full £50 million.

It feels like we're trying to be too cute and clever, rather getting the ball over the line.
Yeah, we've obviously encouraged him to agitate for a move, so I think we're pretty much obliged to get him out of there. Which will mean paying full whack I feel.

Maybe we should wait and see rather than presume that we won't get our first targets, and then presume that our second targets will be rubbish.

No offence to Txiki and I appreciate him trying to save a few mil but Torres to Chelsea was a carbon copy of this transfer. We might not like it but Liverpool were never going to buckle on the price.

All American money men see is money that's why they won't change their stance. If they threaten reserve football then call their bluff and walk.

I agree, but history has shown us that 99% of our secondary targets are significantly cheaper and worse players than our primary targets. Just don't want another Maicon, Garcia, Sinclair window.

Would a formal transfer request from Sterling change things in terms of us reaching agreement with Liverpool? Presumably he'd then forsake any payments due to him which might help speed things along.

The saving is minimal to Liverpool, mate.

He has £2.5m due to him in wages over the remainder of his contract.

No club ever pays the full amount up and Sterling would do well to get 30 per cent of it even if he had been a good boy.

I did get a sense today from the Liverpool pack that they would deal at £45m plus £5m in potential adds.

His agent even tried to leak renewed interest of Chelsea recently to try and give City a shove.

It's one thing being confident in terms of an agreement with the player, but we also must consider how we start to come across to other players we go after in the future?

We certainly can't leave him high and dry.

Perhaps Sterling has refrained from handing in a request to give himself an out?

Mad as it sounds, there is always a way back, as

Because his buyout clause is lower than the reported £50m million Liverpool wants for Sterling?
Signed a 6 year contract not even a year ago today. £45m buy out but not homegrown, not as young and no indication whatsoever that the player wants to move.

Still convinced he'll join us but I reckon we'll end up paying the £50 million. All this news of them rejecting out final bid and letting him rot is just propaganda for their fans.

No club in the world is going to miss out on £40 million out of spite. The even bigger problem Liverpool will have is that next season the ball would be firmly in Sterlings court. Liverpool could try and offload him at a cut price to Arsenal or Chelsea to spite us. But he could then tell them to piss off and leave on a free.
