Do we still count as a European nation tho in football terms i.e. euros even though we are not in Europe anymore? Therefore meaning sterling is still classed as a European player

We are not EU anymore. And la liga limits are for non- EU players, which Sterling now is. This is the case for other european non-eu players too, like Pjanic at Barcelona etc.

Sterling has a Jamaican passport so he counts as an EU player.

That would still only apply (assuming it does to Jamaica) if he was living and working in the EU, which he is not. It only extends the agreement rights, it doesnt generate them from nothing.

It specifically says in that it no longer applies to the UK following departure from the EU.

Thus the Kolpak Ruling declares that citizens of countries which have applicable Association Agreements with the EU, and who are lawfully working within an EU country, have equal rights to work as EU citizens, and cannot have restrictions such as quotas placed upon them.

Is he classed working in Jamaica?

Sterling is an EU player because of his Jamaican passport.

The Kolpak decision (linked in my previous comment) means countries who had specific treaties with the EU nations count as EU players and that includes most of the Caribbean including Jamaica.

I think you need to read that through again.

Jamaica isn’t an EU country. So it wouldn’t matter at all if he was employed there he wouldn’t be “legally employed in an EU country”

Spain is though, and that’s where he’d be legally employed if he signed for Real Madrid and that would grant him equal rights as EU citizens which means no discrimination based on being a non-EU citizen, which means no squad restrictions.

He is not living and working in an EU country. The country he is does not have association agreements. Jamaica may be loosely listed in the americas, but he can't have extended rights from nothing, they have to start with an EU country. The rule as noted doesn't apply to the UK regardless even if he eere from Slovakia, so it is a total red herring non starter. He is non-EU.

He gets extended rights when he legally works in an EU country.

He legally works in an EU country when he is employed by Real Madrid.
