Rainbow laces campaign

Going to a game of football isn't the time or the place to alert folk to social issues that maybe are more likely to appear in a pub, it's 2 hours away from all that outside shit where you can focus your time and attention on the team you love, it's an escape where for those 90 mins of football nothing else matters, i spend my week being forced fed political correctness i don't want it at shoved down my throat ( no pun intended) when i have my escape from life/missus/work/kids at a game of football at a weekend.
Shoved down your throat? It's a rainbow pattern behind the crest on a Facebok page. Stop getting so excited and get a grip mate. Their not going to ask you to attend the next game in drag or hold hands with the bloke sat next to you. At the very most there might be a number of players with rainbow colour laces in their already luminous colour boots. Hardly mardi gras is it?

It's the hypocrisy that gets me. Let's have a campaign to show solidarity with the LGBT community but if you pay us enough we will let you hold a world cup final in your country even though it's illegal to be gay!! (Qatar) up to 7 years in prison.

Spot on, although that particular hypocrisy belongs to FIFA not City. Seven years in prison might better than being beaten to death in Russia for being gay. It's not just treatment of LGBT in Russia and Qatar but a whole host of issues why I won't watch one ball being kicked in the next two World Cups.

As far as those with issues about LGBT solidarity, it's ok to have those issues as long as you understand that it is your issues and you are in a minority. As someone who had issues about it myself you eventually grow up and realise the stupidity of your youth. Please though, don't start saying things like "it's a sin" as that is fucking hilarious. If you are truly a god fearing person surely you believe that your god is tolerant, compassionate and we are all made by him. Honestly, some of the God squad are some of the most evil people I know.

Worst thing post takeover is fucks like his in the UAE that “support” us. Backward fucking inbred arseholes.

Not just the UAE, look under the article on the Daily Mail and idiots are 'Outraged' about other grown men wearing different coloured laces.

It’s a single digit minority in the UK now luckily and whilst that’s still too much, it’s far better than these ‘fans’ in the Middle East. Outdated bunch of arseholes.

Cracking post mate! 100% in agreement especially the hypocrisy

I think it'll be a while before a Premier League player comes out because there're still enough idiots around that it could seriously damage their career. It would almost be like sacrificing themselves in the hope that it improves equality.

The main argument seems to be that supporting Rainbow Laces is "rubbing homosexuality in our face". In reality, I don't see how a slight temporary change in colour scheme is harming anyone.

Also, it's a real shame that certain 'fans' across the world (not everyone of course), many of whom, in all honesty, didn't support us this time ten years ago are now acting as if City have betrayed them and their 'love' for the club, and especially that some people use religion as a means to justify homophobia.

Jurgen Klopp looks thrilled to be supporting the campaign.

I have Bungle gloves acquired for tomorrow.

Whilst city fans continue to chant "who's the faggot in he pink" with no come back, all this seems to be a token gesture. It is not just the UAE.

Good post mate. A lot of the most sinister comments on social media tend to come from City fans from other cultures, but there is still a casual homophobia at games that is rarely challenged, as you say. Opposition players thought to be feigning injury are regularly referred to as “faggots”, and when I used to stand in 111 you’d get chants of “Who’s the faggot in the pink”, whenever an opposition fan was singled out for wearing that colour (I’ve moved to the Family Stand now, so not sure if that still happens?).

I think the lack of current players willing to come out, presumably because they fear being targeted by rival fans, shows that this is still a very real issue.

Not sure that making rainbow laces mandatory will make a huge difference though. The clubs need to clamp down by treating homophobic insults or chants in the same way that racism is dealt with. I’m sure they profess to already, but in reality it doesn’t seem to happen.
Yeah, I take the point on not making it compulsory, I just find opt-out systems to be more effective - kinda like how I'm for opt-out organ donation, then there's not a chance of never getting round to doing it and it has to be a conscious effort to not get involved.
